Hi,
There are several very informative posts relating to courier collections but I have a quick question.
I have sold a large leather armchair and buyer has paid via eBay and is arranging own courier (not asking me to pay courier but arranging himself)
If I send the buyer a link to the eBay page confirming they know that they are not covered by the money back guarantee then do I need any other evidence just in case, or is it a flat no for any claims? - ie should I take lots of pictures or even a video of the item being collected? Ive no idea how a courier will deliver a large leather armchair safely without damage to someone who is 150 miles from me.
Im just slightly nervous.
Thanks

What you need is the collection code - videos etc won't help you.

As said you will need the collection code uploading when buyer/courier collects.
As collection items are to be paid at checkout your buyer could return the chair if not as described.
Ebay quote for sellers:
Returns for local collection listings should be treated the same as other delivery options. If the buyer returns an item because it's faulty or it isn't as described in the listing, they can return it to you even if your return policy states you don't accept returns.

In addition to getting the code to prove collected, it would be worth while getting some evidence that buyer did not collect in person, as while according to the rules collecting by courier invalidates the money back guarantee for damage or not as described claims, I have never heard how a seller has managed to prove that buyer did not collect in person.
As usual a rule that is open to abuse by a dishonest buyer.

Don't give the buyer a heads up with that link.
Presumably they've confirmed via eBay messages that they're arranging their own courier? If s, this is sufficient for them to not be covered by eBay's Money Back Guarantee.
They will still, however, be able to issue a not as described chargeback via their card provider should they so choose.

I might take a slightly more moderate approach - I personally think that sending them the link might be seen as a bit 'passive-aggressive' and, if I was the buyer, I might think you were trying to prepare me to receive a damaged item.
I would message the buyer and remind them that having their own courier collect an item means they will not be covered by the Ebay MBG and say that, if it is at all possible, you (the seller) would be happier if the buyer was able to come and have a good look at the item before it was collected or even accompany the courier when it is collected.
