Counterfeit item even though authenticity guaranteed

I recently purchased a Louis Vuitton bag on eBay, which was authenticated through eBay’s authentication service. However, after receiving it, I compared it to the same bag directly from Louis Vuitton and noticed several discrepancies that make me believe the eBay bag is counterfeit.

Some of the differences include:

• The embossing on the leather is much shallower than on the authentic bag.

• The brand stamp looks slightly misaligned and less crisp.

• The leather texture and structure feel different from the real one.

• The zipper and hardware don’t match the quality of genuine Louis Vuitton pieces.

I’ve reached out to the seller, which offered to pay for external authentication, or I can also go to ebay. Has anyone had experience disputing an item authenticated by eBay? Would eBay’s Money Back Guarantee still apply in this case?

I’d really appreciate any advice on how to proceed.

Newer makes of the same model of handbag can have subtle differences.

It would be odd for eBay's LV authentication to get this wrong.

Could you take it to an LV dealer to check?

End of the day if it has proved to be a fake open that case for item not as described,  remember you have 30 days from the item's last estimated date for delivery to do this. 

To be honest, I don't know if being authenticated by eBay would work against you, but if you had proof from a LV retailer then this could be produced to eBay,  you also always have your payment provider to turn to for help with any refund, if necessary.

Your own opinion that the bag is counterfeit isn't enough. You need to take it to an LV authorised distributor. If they will confirm this in writing ask here again and we can look at what can be done through eBay. Have you read the full t&c of the authentication service, which would be the first place to start looking?

There is no point in trying to advise you until you have done this. eBay is unlikely even to discuss your claim if it's just your opinion against the authenticator's.
