I have been contacted by the seller to say I need to confirm receipt of the item so that he can get paid. I can't find anyway in the order details where I can confirm receipt and there is nothing about this in the online help. Needless to say the chatbot was no help and I can't find out where to actually speak to anyone. Anyone any ideas?

Buyers cannot confirm receipt for an item. Tracking usually does this, so I am assuming the seller sent it untracked.
You can leave feedback, sometimes this helps to release the seller's money sooner.
