Closing a requests - consequences?

Hi there, maybe somebody can help me? Bought a guitar on eBay (already paid).  Seller hast not yet delivered due to alleged shipping problems. Agreed on a new delivery date with him but now he wants me to close my open case/requests asserting that my purchase us still protected by eBay. Is that true? eBay says that a closed case cannot be reopened again. I don't trust the seller. What should i do? Thanks for suggestions.

Do not close the case.   You will not be able to reopen it.   Escalate it within 30 days to get a refund.   If item turns up you can agree a way to pay again.

You must note that buyer protection runs from the original delivery date and won't be extended.
