I bid on an item from a seller in the Channel Islands at £1.99 + £5.00 postage having won the auction I was notified that payment was required, on selecting pay now it stated item price £2.39 + £6.00 postage £1.40 more than the listing stated by the seller. I contacted the seller reply claimed eBay add this as VAT. I was under the impression that the Channel Islands were part of the UK so I find the sellers claim difficult to comprehend. I asked the seller why this alleged VAT addition is not stated in the item listing. Spoke to an agent at eBay who did not appear to understand my issue so will try and contact them again. I have never paid extra on previous purchases from the Channel Islands so is this seller misleading buyers.

Although CI are part of UK,

As far as VAT goes, they are separate, so VAT applies.
