Buyers protection fee racket

Just bought an item for my submitted bid 0ff £12.53 and eBay added buyers protection fee off £6.78 what a complete rip off. There was no upfront warning of adding such a fee. Hope eBay gets this money racketeering sorted

Buyers protection fee racket

Yep, there were plenty of messages in eBay Announcement in the past months,  that Buyer Protection Fee was coming.

It's not popular, but it's not money racketeering !

I think over 50% of the item price that I bought it for is.

BPF is 4% + 75p so whatever has been added to your bid is not BPF.

What is the item number, please?

So, looking at the sold item, I can see

£12.53
incl. £1.18 forBuyer protection

Ended

There is a charge of £2.70 for delivery so the total cost to you should be £15.23.  The 12.53 you bid included buyer protection, Ebay don't add it on as an extra fee.
Have you had an invoice from Ebay?

Have you paid?

It is clearly wrong.

Buyers protection fee racket

No.

You could do that, but the seller may not be aware of the overcharge - BPF is collected and retained by Ebay.

Personally, I would contact Ebay Customer Services and get them to have a look at the sold item - they will see what I copied and pasted which is the cost of 12.53 including the BPF.

Then, ask them to look at your payment and the invoice with the overcharged BPF.  They should be able to refund the difference.

I would wait until tomorrow morning to request a callback from Customer Services - link below.

You usually get Dublin in the morning who will be more aware of UK rules.  I think the BPF is applied in the UK only so an overseas Customer Services person might not know what the issue was.

Thank you so much for your help I will contact them in the morning. I don’t
mind paying a protection fee and it did show in the bid. But to face that
extortionate amount scared me.
