Buyers choosing postage means no tracking and claiming not received (two separate buyers).

My wife recently sold two video games. 

Both buyers (no connection) are claiming non-receipt.

She tells me that ebay now gives the buyer the option to choose the postage type (I wasn't aware of this change) and that cannot be changed.

Because the buyers chose the cheapest  - RM 2nd Class not tracked - then she is stuffed. (Of course they would choose the cheapest, who wouldn't??).

It seems like this new system is a charter for buyers to claim non-receipt and sellers are going to be losing.

Has anyone else started getting these non-receipt claims?

Of course on low value item, tracking is impractical with increased cost. Especially buyers fees. Buyers should never be given a choice of postage

As far as the system is concerned, nothing has changed, since I joined in 2002, and I only use tracking for over £10, and then use Tracked 48.

If claims for not received, then buyer must be refunded, and if a proof of posting has been obtained you make a claim on Royal Mail. RM would investigate if any person continually claimed “not received”.

So this isn't a new default that buyers get to choose postage? Apparently this is how Vinted works and I assumed ebay was moving to copy them when they dropped all listing fees.

To be clear then, my wife could have specified a postage method when creating the listing?

Your wife must have chosen 2nd class standard delivery when she made the listing as eBay Simple Delivery is tracked  with Royal Mail or Evri.

That was not a listing with Simple Delivery, your wife chose:

Perhaps ebay suggested it to her but they didn't put it on the listing and the buyer had no choice.

I am still surprised that two items should go missing. The only link is they were both dropped off at the same Post Office (one week apart).

With untracked postage you will never know if they actually went missing or if the buyers took advantage.

I have just received an email from ebay about something called Simple Delivery. Starting on April 15th THIS WILL BE THE ONLY DELIVERY METHOD AVAILABLE!!!!

This sounds terrible. Whenever I sell stuff I generally ignore all of the delivery options and specify Other Courier. I use Evri 99% of the time as there is a drop off two minutes away and so that I can get tracking.  Now it seems I can't! What the actual **** is that all about??!

It sounds like that must have been what was forced on my wife with her recent missing deliveries.

From 15th April for any new listings you wont be able to select 'other courier' the only option will be Royal Mail,Evri or both,the default selection will be both but you can remove one or the other here https://www.ebay.co.uk/ship/prf

If you select only one of the options the delivery cost will increase for the buyer as shown below

For the items you have listed currently and seleccting only Evri the postage will increase to £2.94 from your existing £2.10

Thanks for the info. This is a really awful decision by ebay. Whenever I have sent a parcel via Evri, by weighing it and buying the postage on the Evri site, it has always been cheaper than the Evri option ebay have. 

Now we can't do that the buyer is going to have to pay more.

Also, does this mean the buyer chooses (if you leave both options), or does the seller choose?

Previously I could set a cost for postage based on the Evri price I had got from their site. Has that option now gone?
