Buyer protection

Hi, I bought a n ignition switch for my Peugeot boxer in October last year. It was stated that it was the correct one for my vehicle. Last month the ignition switch melted and went on fire, causing damage to the engine ecu. The insurance company has said that it was a component failure (the ignition switch)   and that it was not covered by the policy. Fully comprehensive.
I am now looking at a bill of over £2000 to repair my vehicle. The company that I have purchased it from have offered to replace the switch free of charge. What recourse do I have against them?
Thanks.

If they are a registered business seller - Speak to citizens advice and, or get legal advice.

As regards eBay, their own money back guarantee only lasts for 30 days. The same for PayPal, and it's too late now even to approach your credit or debit card issuer.

For the possibility of any legal claim you need to see a solicitor, or consult Citizens advice.

Your suposedly comprehensive insurance policy doesn't seem to be very comprehensive! I take it that you've crawled over the small print to check what they have told you? It  has certanly surprised me that component failure isn't covered. I must check my own policy.

Good luck anyway!

Nothing through ebay, in fact ebay wouldn't even help you get a replacement switch after all this time.
