Buyer protection fee & buyer offers

Feels like this is a bit broken in the app.

I listed an item for £19.99.

App tells me I have an offer for £17.

I click on review offer and it says I have an offer of £15.66.

I want to counter, but it's not clear is my counter what I will receive or what the buyer will pay?

You get £15.66.

With buyer fee, buyer pays £17.00.

Buyers see total to pay, buyer fee is included.

I'm asking when I counter, is the number I type in as a counter the amount I receive or the amount the buyer pays.

The new  buyer protection fees are automatically added to listings by ebay.

The Buyer Protection fee will be calculated as: 

• A flat fee of up to £0.75 per item, and
• 4% of the item price up to £300, and
• 2% of any portion of the item price from £300 to £4,000

I'm asking whether the counter offer I type in is the figure I receive or the figure the buyer pays.

I'm confused as the app has told me that an offer is for £17 when on review it's actually for £15.66, so it is quoting both gross and net figures, and I want to be clear before I counter whether it is going to treat that as gross or net.

TBH.  It is not clear.

My understanding is if you counter offer £19, you receive this amount, buyer pays £20.51.

When a buyer sends a counteroffer, we'll show you the buyer's price breakdown, including the amount you'll receive and the Buyer Protection fee paid to eBay, so you'll have all the information you need to accept or decline the counteroffer.

I'm not asking about a buyer's counteroffer, I'm talking about a counter offer I make to a buyer.

The counter offer payment details, should show the details of what you should receive prior to sending it to the buyer.

PS: this is a new site change and not all info is clear,not even to ebay staff

This is new to all of us.

So until it has been operating for a while no one knows what issues may occur.

It's things like this that should be ironed out in testing of a system and clearly signposted for users.

It's not as if ebay is a one man dev team struggling to keep up. If a system isn't ready, don't release it.

Ok, a second screen comes up showing a breakdown before the counter is submitted, the figure you type in is the figure you'll receive.

From another thread the buyer is saying that the offer from the seller (which I think was the first offer  not a counter offer) came up as an amount excluding the BPF which was then added on at checkout. 

If so that is highly unsatisfactory.

However I haven't seen any proof yet of what the seller actually offered.

I have been wondering what would happen in this sort of situation.

Not at all clear, but do many buyers have any idea of what is happening? I can guarantee there will be many questions along the lines of “I had to pay more than I offered” and who will get blamed, the seller.

It is ebay making more money from this, rather than when sellers used the final value fee,and yes buyers and sellers are not happy about the changes,many not even knowing the changes are taking place 🙄
