I’ve sold a bulky collection only item and the buyer did “buy it now” on the 26th of March. They took several days to contact me to arrange collection and asked questions like what are the dimensions so they could see if it would fit in their vehicle or whether they’d need to bring a trailer. Then on the 3rd April I got an apologetic message saying they had car trouble so could they get a courier service to collect. I said no problem and gave a contact email address. They said “great, thanks” but a week later I’ve heard nothing else despite chasing again. How long should I wait ? Should I just cancel the order ? And what happens to the money that will eventually auto transfer to my bank from my eBay balance if I do nothing ? Can I claim they abandoned the item after 30+ days ?

You will need to refund the buyer's money if they are not having the item. You could email them and say you need it collected by a certain date. If they don't reply or don't collect by then you can cancel the transaction. If the money is still on hold you will pay the refund yourself and keep the held payment when it's released.
