When I try to bid  I get notice saying I’m not allowed to bid rule 3008  have contacted seller who I have bought from before with no problem  and he has no idea why this is

Seller may have a blanket block on buyers with non-payment strikes, etc..  without realising.    You could ask them to put your ID on their exemption list which will lift any blocks.    Send them this link:

You can Google eBay's codes, quote: "eBay Error 3008 generally means you are blocked from bidding on or purchasing a specific item due to "Buyer Requirements" set by the seller. This is often a result of automatic restrictions rather than a personalized ban."
