I bid for an item on E Bay, the bid was confirmed by E mail, then when the bidding ended, it went to someone who’d bid less, what is going on with E Bay ???

Give item number, we can only attempt to answer question when we can see the bidding history.

If you are looking at the bidding history then those numbers don't include the buyer protection fee which would have been included in your bid.
