I have been buying off ebay for over 10 years. Today I went to buy a couple of pairs of medical shears and ebay have decided that I'm not old enough and need to take my credit card details to prove my age.
I don't leave my card details on any site, but a simple check of my buying history will show them that I have brought plenty of bladed items before.
This is going to cost ebay, a lot of custom, TEMU is a lot cheaper and the customer services are a whole lot better, you can actually contact them.

True that other online sites have different age verification options, but eBay only accept one, and that is owning and registering a credit card on your eBay account. You have to be 18 years or older to own one as anyone of any age can own a debit card.
It also has another purpose. With no card on your account, this also shows hopefully , your responsibility for anyone in your household who may not be of 18 years + , to not be able to use your account to buy bladed items.
It not only covers yourself , but members of your household with access to your account.

Age verification has to be taken at the time of purchase so any historical data would be invalid.
A credit card is only used for verification and will not be charged or saved.
Payment may be made by alternative methods at checkout

I read your post but as I said " any historical data would be invalid"
eBay's bladed products policy requires buyers to be 18 or older, verified by a credit card at checkout, and requires sellers to use age-verified delivery services for all bladed items
