Just bought an age restricted product.
I recieved an email from the seller with a link to a third party website asking me to verify my age.
I am sorry but I am not prepared to give my VERY private details to a 3rd party website, so I have asked the seller to cancel the order. I have been on ebay for more than 20 years, I would have thought it was obvious that I am not a teenager.
I am in fact nearly 60 & disabled.
Please help.
Where do I stand with this?

If it was vape seller, by law they have verify your age before selling to you.
You either do it or don't buy.

Surely there must be a way of verifying age other than putting very personal details onto a third party website?

That is the option this seller has chosen.
You can find a different seller, but you still need to verify your age.

But I have nothing to verify my age (did not want to say that as it is personal)
I do not drive, so I have no dirvers license. I do not have a passport of other ID, so what do I verify it with?
All I have is my marriage certificate & house hold bills & even they don't have my D.O.B on. Plus at my age, age verification is not something I think about seeing as I have not bee asked it for 38 years.
Does ebay not keep our dates of birth on record?
This is nuts. Oh well...
My fault. Those are the rules. So I have lost my money.

Ask the seller to cancel your transaction if your not happy and the refund should then be automatically returned.

Not an ebay request,
As I said, it is the law for all vape sellers.
Go to a physical shop and buy.

Ask the seller to cancel.
Or if ebay has given you an estimated delivery date, open a claim for item not received when that date passes.
You should get your money back.

You have not lost your money! If you cannot verify your age the purchase will fail.
You may need to open a "non receipt" case when the latest date for delivery is past.
The "Government" is [probably slowly] bringing in a age verification scheme - a card perhaps so that one verification will do for all purposes. @vikmaso-0

Thank you for the very kind messages everyone.
I sent the seller a message last night to cancel the order, but the seller did not reply, so I cancelled the order myself this morning so it is now cancellation pending. I also checked my ebay account details & my date of birth is on there from when I first register over 20 years ago. Why is this not acceptable?
Anyway, I am still very worried I wont get my money back.
How do I open a "non receipt" arkwebus?

A buyer can request a cancellation but a seller can refuse this.
One day after your item's last estimated date for delivery open a case for item not received this way, for a full refund:
Go right of the item purchased, and from More Actions select.... I Have Not Received My Item.
If you are not fully refunded within 3 days, you must escalate the case on day 4 or within 30 days from opening the case, and eBay will step in and force the refund.
Do not close the case early for any excuse or promise the seller may give, and do not forget to escalate.

Many thanks for this. I will do that.
I have just been attempting to use this "verify my age" 3rd party website again as I was trying to do the "age estimation" thing last night, but this option is now grey out, so now I have no chance of ever verifying my age. Sorry but this is an absolute nightmare!!
So as this option is now greyed out (& I can't use the others) this means I can never again buy any product with an age restriction?

If you are wishing to buy many items which need age verification, it may be worthwhile to apply for a credit card, you don't have to use it.
This proves you are over the age of 18 , and adding the card details into your eBay account , will then allow you to buy those age verified requirement needed, items.

Adding to the great advice you've already been given, your D.O.B. you have registered will not be taken into account because absolutely anyone could be using your account.
We get many cases here of the account holder's family members or children, using their parents' account, or your account may have been hacked.
As suggested by Tressygirl you could think about getting a credit card and registering that. This should prevent you being asked to verify your age again.

Credit card application is out of the question as I would never be accepted for one.
I just have to face facts that I can not buy vapes on ebay to help me stop smoking.
I have been messaging the seller to see if he can help but he keeps sending me the automated "please verify" messages, over & over. He wont send me a real message.
If I had some help from the seller it would be a start.

The selelr cannot override the policy that a buyer is checked for age.
Is there perhaps someone you can ask to buy this item, someone who holds a credit card?
I am presuming here that you are over 18 !
