I am trying to buy a Bosch power trimmer for weeding the garden - hardly a tool for going mugging, but yet ebay have applied the age verification process. The only way to do this is by submitting Credit Card details which I do not have. The crazy thing is, when I call Customer Services, the first thing they say is to thank me for being a loyal Ebay Customer for over 25 years - So why and more importantly, HOW? can I prove that I am over 18 ?

The only evidence ebay accepts is a credit card, they don't make exceptions.

In this instance it’s credit card or no purchase. I am sorry to say. These rules are set by eBay and they have a blanket rules in conjunction with govt guidelines on the weapons act.
I agree a hedge trimmer is just that….

Why keep banging on at me that I am a loyal customer of 25 years when it does not allow me to purchase on here though? Why do I need to prove to them that I am actually younger?

eBay doesn't require age verification to join, so being a customer isn't evidence of age.
Surely you've learned by now that eBay is robotic? To verify your age, they require a credit card.
There are of other means of verifying age, but these would require eBay to check the evidence provided and record it in your account. It's easier just to require payment by credit card.
You could suggest a change of policy - but eBay's policy on suggestions from users is that it doesn't accept suggestions from users. eBay doesn't have any complaints procedure either.
