Hi guys. Struggling to understand a crazy expensive postage cost on an item I just won. I was told bid of £36.94 had won. I knew going into auction that the postage cost would be £2.94. But after winning auction it says item price is £39.14 and now there is an additional £2.20 fee for eBay buyer protection. I don't understand this at all. I thought the buyer protection was including in the start price of auction as it didn't mention any other fees in the listing (just £20 start price with £2.94 postage). I know eBay had made changes that everyone hates, but why is it so confusing !?!

You really need to post the item number or a screenshot of where you are seeing the charges. There will be an explanation but it's easier if we can see the auction.
I don't think the postage is crazy, I think it's how you are looking at the breakdown, and your winning bid was actually £39.14.

You posted the same one twice, which shows the winning bid and the postage I thought it would.

OK, it's poorly explained but all those bid amounts are the bids excluding the buyer protection fee.
There are no additional costs, your winning bid included the BPF and the postage was as advertised.
If you put as a maximum bid, £50, for example, then that includes the BPF as do any automatic bids ebay does for you, up to the winning amount.
It's simple but ebay makes it look more complicated because of the different ways they display the information.
