Should I stop the payment for an item I ordered as they have decided to send me a different version but it will not fit my car

No, don't stop the payment, that would cause a lot of problems. You will have to wait until it arrives now, and if it isn't as described you can open a case under eBay's money back guarantee, through the resolution centre.

If the seller wants the original item to be returned eBay will require them to send you a prepaid postal label.
Follow the instructions carefully and, if necessary, escalate the case for eBay to step in. Don't agree to close it until the matter is resolved.
