Price changed whilst offer made

Can a seller change or update the buy it now price whilst an offer was made on an item?

Before the offer the buy it now price was £4.39 and now its £7.49.

Thats a huge price rise!

While the offer is in place what difference does it make what the price is, if you offered £5 that is the most you are committed to pay if accepted. I doubt that a seller can edit anything while an offer is still valid, he would need to decline the offer first.

It feels like to me that the seller priced the item low to entice buyers and then hikes the price when buyers show interest in the item.
