why am i here ? why are you here ? on fh+g

I lurk, I lurk every day 🙂 I've been lurking since oct 2008 I think.

I found fh+g purely by accident, i'd been browsing ebay and found that there was forums/threads.

I read some threads in various forums, and then found a thread about fh+g's glow worm.

well i'm pretty sure that was the nickname used - nickname isn't the right word 😞  - term of endearment would be more appropriate.

sadly the thread I had found was after the baby's death

so I browsed a bit more and I found the original thread which if my memory serves me right was started by the grandmother before the birth.

my apologies if my memory isn't quite right - my thread is not intended to offend or hurt anyone.

my outstanding memory is of the love and support shown on fh+g at that time, I can recall seeing photos of two different fh+g ladies sending off balloons in glow worm's memory, and I believe a fh+g lady attended the funeral.

so why am I here, and why do I stay ( even tho i'm in lurk mode 🙂

because, altho people come and people go, and people return 

fh+g is essentially a nice place to be, it's full of kind, caring and supportive people.

I've seen flowers / plants sent for bereavements, gifts sent out of friendship,

I've read threads on unplanned / unexpected pregnancies and enjoyed the baby photos 9+ months later, and seen photos of the knitted gifts made.

I ' know ' you,

I know where you work / what you work as

I've seen your home, and seen you move house / location

I've admired your garden, and followed your progress in the greenhouse

I know what you eat for dinner,

I know your childrens' and grandchildrens' names, I even know your goddaughter's daughter's name 🙂 

I know what you've knitted / sewen for your children/grandchildren,

I know where you've been on holiday, and I've seen the photos

I know about your operation, I know about your dogs' operations

I've seen new baby photos, new grandchild photos, new kitten photos and new puppy photos and

I've cried when you've lost your cats and dogs 😞

and even tho I've never met you, fh+g are a great bunch of people !

I've supported charities, followed a horse's progress 🙂  bought knitted cats ( and would have won another if i'd not got the week wrong 😞  and I've got a fabulous collection of yankee candles.

why are you here / why do you stay ?

Awwww, little Hayden Starr.  I hope the little glowworms mum and nan have found happiness but I have no doubt he will still be a big part of their lives.   We told them he would always be remembered here, and so he has been 🙂   

I know where the exit door is now, and don't come in nearly as often as I always used to, but I consider myself to have a freedom pass so happily wander in and out at will.   I know where to come for help..........and the support shown for my Walk for ME was humbling and so touching.  You lot put such a big smile on my sisters face.

I firstly found RT through the MDCC, then found so much support and kindness here that this is my lifeline, the thing that keeps me going. There are so many truly wonderful people here that despite the ups and downs that come and go this is something truly wonderful.

I'm on FHG cos I've been here since the first day...  loads of threads started by.. oh my who was it!!  anyway.. threads that went. post here if your id starts with a,b etc...

A group of us did treasure hunts and quizzes and RT got fed up with us.. we moved onto FHG and I've been here ever since.

FHG was suposed be a temporary name.. but no one came up with anything better so it stuck!

I found the old Q&A by chance while browsing, and liked it.  When it all changed I chose FH&G, which sounded appropriate for me, and joined in!

It's a friendly forum and there's a lot of help and support available for anyone who needs it.  I have had helpful advice on problems with pets, and I know a lot of others have too.

I have also found charities to send my used stamps to - I have penpals, so always have plenty!  I find people interesting, so will keep calling in!

Been here since 2006 when my dad died.. needed to cry out to someone and people on the nags were great, but here was the best.

I remember Rick that darn dog... What an amazing story that was.

I also remeber the lady who lost her hubby, I forget her name now, but we were with her throughout his treatment until he sadly lost his battle. 😞  Wish she would post again.  i often think about how's she doing

I am here, because all my friends live in my computer, literally!  I don't have any close friends locally, but I have found some wonderful, genuine, caring people in here, and in other Groups. Have met quite a few already, and hope to meet quite a few more some time in the future.

This really is a great little Community, which rallies round whenever help is needed.

And I consider myself very lucky and privileged to be a part of it 🙂

I found the forums when I first used Ebay, I lurked on Q&A as it was so useful, posted rarely on RT, then joined in with RTDC as it was then but still posted only rarely on those threads.

I seem to recall that FHG was a later addition, and eventually I moved over here to support Chaldon with fundraising, met some of the lovely people that used to post here on a visit  to Chaldon - and then there was the ' unreasonable neighbour' and the court case and fundraising to help out.

I still lurk a little bit, but don't post often. There are some lovely people here. I feel sad for your losses, people and pets, and your illnesses and worries but you won't know that I care because I don't tell you, unless you read this and remember it.

I found fhg when I was looking for some help online about my son's behaviour, when he was about 6, so several years ago.....

I had been buying/selling on ebay for a while and noticed the community tab, and within a few days I was part of the community 🙂

I quickly found out from you guys that my son probably has Aspergers - a few months later at his first assessment, this was confirmed and I have received loads of help and support over the years. 

I really appreciate that I have this place, and for a long time you were pretty much a lifeline. I have very few RL friends, but I don't feel like billy no mates with you guys around :-x

I have moved house 3 times since I joined - lived in 3 different counties - and when I have had no real support around me, you have always been there.

Since the boards changed, I haven't been on as much. I try to catch up with everyone but feel a bit detached these days. I don't get my daily fix and miss so much. We could do with a weekly digest!

I really feel like I have experienced so many of your highs and lows throughout the years, and hope for many more xxx

Gates, Maggie (or Patch whichever you prefer) is right.  You should visit us more often.  We are a mad lot but we are always here for each other.  I know when I had to get my mum into hospital last New Year's Eve, everyone on here was brilliant and I thank everyone again for their help and support.

I usually lurk and occasionally post. 

Not long after eBay started I made a purchase, but had problems with the seller so went on to Q&A to ask for advice. 

I got great advice and help and my problem got sorted and never really left since!

Nice people who are always willing to lend an ear and give advice and never preach, that's why I keep coming back:-x

I started looking on EBay, had some questions & found the Boards.  Got helpful answers from pleasant sounding people on one, but when sarcastic folk started appearing I took fright!

I then later asked one or two basic questions on FHG & again got helpful answers, but minus the belittling - & have been here a long time too!

I don't really like lurking - either that, or I have to add my two penny worth :^O

I have been through such a lot - as many people everywhere have - both before posting here & since

I have had so much support, & more crucially non-judgmental understanding (or is that what support is??) from kind folk on this chat board

I have felt soooo much for those going through stuff here too, & hope that I have been able to help them through in some small way in return for all their kindness

I too believe that more people on this earth are kind than are wicked, & it seems to be borne out here
