very thin foam

does anyone remember the thin foam/sponge you could buy for crafting. My mother used to buy it to make soap animals for charity, it was very thin and you put a bar of soap inside and made your animal shape,usually tortoises! they were brilliant at lathering up too.

soooo....does anyone know if this stuff is still being made? I've looked on here and can't see any at all. Just wondered if you peeps know if it's got a specific name.

Captain - I know exactly what you mean, and I remember those animals with soap inside.

Sadly neither of the foams suggested by CG and Twishy will work. You need an "open cell"  foam with an open texture that will allow the water and soap to pass through freely - those craft foams are a "closed cell" very dense foam, more akin to a bendy flexible card.

I have tried searching, I tried searching for sponge, but all I got was sponge cake. I suspect that with current fire regs that the sheets of thin sponge are no longer sold.

there's no answer to that CG!!!

terry would have been a good alternative but I tried it once and it kept fraying. You cut out wee bits for the add ons you see.

1/4" would do CG, if you could wet it.

It's called sponge bar foam. It can be bought in rolled sheet form.
