questions for those of you who have been through the menopause....

afternoon everybody,

right then, here goes. Can you experience different symptoms every month ? one night I had really bad night sweats, the quilt was literally sodden on my side, but only happened the once that bad .next month I missed a period, a couple of times ive almost fainted, joint pain that comes and goes, lightheadedness, numbness, loss of libido.......etc

looking at lists of symptoms I  get most of them but not at the same time, is this normal ? Apart from the one missed period they are regular as clockwork, is it normal for other symptoms to kick in first ?

is it worth visiting the doc? is it too early ?

thankyou 🙂

You can't be too careful and at least your GP is being very thorough.  It sounds like you have a GP like mine.  He's brilliant and checks every little detail on everything.

They reckon taking warfarin makes your hair thin.  Why can't it make your body thin instead!:-(

Yes, that seems to be true as I can lose what seems like handfuls of hair some months, depending on the INR levels.  I just dream I'm thin!

Re: questions for those of you who have been through the menopause....

mark, your GP can do a blood test to check your estrogen levels to check if you're menopausal.

I have heard - never tried it though - that sage helps with night sweats.

I was lucky on the one hand that I sailed through the menopause but unlucky that I got breast cancer at the start. All ok after an op though. 🙂

I have to admit I was a big fan of HRT. Just sorry I had to come off it after 12 years.

Re: questions for those of you who have been through the menopause....

My doc gave me some pills for the night sweats. They took about a fortnight to kick in, but what a difference they made.I'm weaning myself off them now, but doc says they can be taken long term, so I can do it slowly. I also decided to take an iron suppliment too and I do believe I feel better for it.

Re: questions for those of you who have been through the menopause....

I am 49 and suffering awful symptoms of the perimenopause. I had sweats last year now they have stopped for a while. Periods are far between then on for a few days or even one day. The worst is Terribly frightening Migraines with sickness for twelve hours, shaking, sweating, slurring words. They have calmed down a bit now as my stress levels have lowered a bit too so that must be playing a part aswell. I am having Acupuncture which seems to be working. fascinating, how i do not know. I feel calmer. I get depressed and have a lot of anxiety problems anyway so its been horrible. I cannot take HRT and did not want to take Amitriptyline for Migraine, so i have immigran for those. I know this could go on for a while so i sympathize with all women on here who are going through this tough time. Your emotions are all over the place too. I also get aching joints and am glad im not the only one suffering this. Does anyone else have bad Migraines? : )

Sage is the herbal supplement that I take and have had good results with it.

Re: questions for those of you who have been through the menopause....

I was 50 in March. For the last few years my periods have become much shorter. Since my birthday they have also become a little irregular too. I've only experienced a handful of flushes and they've not been too bad. Although I get the symptoms of an imminent period (sore bust, aching stomach) which I've now had about a fortnight, with no sign of my period 😞

My worst symptom, which I'm assuming is menopause related is aching joints. All sorts of joints from one finger joint, to hip or wrist or thumb or wherever. It doesn't usually last more than 24 hours, but can be quite painful.

I will get some sage to try. Has anyone else found anything that works for them? I'd be grateful for any suggestions, thanks.

Fortunately have not suffered migraine. My Mum (76) suffers migraine and has a spray from the Dr. As soon as her vision starts to play up, she sprays, she no longer gets the pain, but still suffers disturbed vision and feels drained the following day.

Re: questions for those of you who have been through the menopause....

I used to get seriously bad migraines whilst I was having periods but I've only had one a couple of years ago and it was very, very mild.  I can't use HRT either as there is a history of breast cancer in my family.  I occasionally get hot sweats but don't get many.  Also, as I have said previously, I get cold sweats but these only seem to happen at night.

Re: questions for those of you who have been through the menopause....

I was very happy on HRT for many years but had to come off it on doctors orders. Then the night sweats started. I would still be on it if I had had my way.

Re: questions for those of you who have been through the menopause....

I don't know if I've been through it or not 😐

I would have though I would because I went through an"induced" one quite a few years ago which was horrendous so I know the symptoms well ........ I have since had  a hysterectomy & was told to expect menopausal symptoms after a few years but I'm still waiting ....... maybe I've just been luck 😄
