Just interested to know if anyone has done any of those visits to an Animal park where you can go behind the scenes and see the animals. I know you have to pay but i am interested in going and seeing the Giraffes as they are a favourite animal of mine. I have Port Lympne nearby in Folkstone and know they do it there. i know you can also be a zoo keeper for a day, ohhhh exciting but just to be a bit closer to these great creatures would be oh so exciting i think. They are so gorgeous and elegant and when they run its like in slow motion. They are truly Beautiful!!!.

We went to longleat a couple of times when my son was younger and I think they do that sometimes, I think I remember them running a competition.
My personal favourite is the Tiger, or Birds of Prey.

I live about three miles away from a safari park which has been open for about 20 years. I've never been yet but I'd love to go. Don't know if they have giraffes though.

Just checked our safari park's website and they do have giraffes amongst other things.

The Yorkshire Wildlife Park is not far from me. While working in a local pharmacy one of the women there said her house backed onto the park, and on a sunny evening she could sit on her patio with a G&T and listen to the lions.I want to live i her house!

They do that keeper for the day thing at Colchester Zoo and I think you can choose
from a selection of animals which you would like to get up close and personal with.
I like giraffes too and was watching them being fed at Colchester a few months ago.
I was amazed at how long their tongues are, they seem to go on forever!

Yesssss and they eat those tree things with the big spikes on the branches as apparently their tongues are like armour plated although you would never think that. I think i said before i would love to go that hotel Treetops in Africa where they stick their heads right in the verandah windows when your having breakfast or whatever ha ha ha. I think thats so COOL.

My dad was a keeper for a day at Colchester zoo 🙂
He had the most amazing time - in with meerkats, porcupines (he came home with a fistful of quills) and elephants and the reptile section which he specialises in at home.
He came home absolutely bursting with memories and excitement; and given he is a knowledgable person who was able to really test the keepers he was thrilled at their care of their animals and larger conservation work.
He considers it a great day, well worth doing. I think that anything that ignites a love of endangered and indigenous wildlife a must-have :_
