Here on the East Coast (Brid) it's very windy but has stopped raining for now. Seen the disruption down South on the news, and 10,000 homes without power; anyone got snow? If so, please send it this way.

Lordy just looked at the flood warnings for Devon and Cornwall, all coastal places, Seems to be from Lyme Regis all the way round the coast to Lynmouth on the North Devon coast. On the TV Devon and Cornwall police have just declared major incident for low lying coastal areas and have mobilised rescue agencies for expected flooding. 13 severe flood warnings, flooding iminent danger to life.
Oh er! glad we live 4 miles inland and on a hill, local village 2 miles away is expected to flood overnight as it is on the estuary, such a shame if it does because a lot of people are only just back in their houses from the last time.
Just hope no silly billies decide to watch the waves, I can't believe they do that.
Keep safe everyone (again)

I hope that no-one is affected with this bad weather. I am lucky that I live inland and there are no major waterways. Not everyone is so lucky though. I agree that some people are stupid enough to go out in really bad weather. We've just watched the local weather and a man from the Environment Agency has urged people not to go near the sea tomorrow. Common sense so you'd think but common sense is sadly lacking in some people unfortunately.

Maggie, I have just been reading on Yahoo that the Preston Beach area of Weymouth is going to be bad. Hope that's not too near you and that you and Damson manage to stay safe.
02-01-2014 8:11 PM
Yes Books I have just read that too. We have now got 58 take action flood warnings, around the coast and tidal rivers, looks like it is all the way round from Maggies to Bristol.
Oh dear I hope they are wrong and it doesn't happen.
02-01-2014 8:26 PM
Fingers crossed that they are wrong Ed. I just hope and pray that everyone stays as safe as possible.

Preston is the opposite side of Weymouth to me. There is a long stretch of road with the sea one side of the sea wall & Lodmoor Nature Reserve on the other. If it breaches the sea wall there is nothing to stop it flooding across the nature reserve.
This is the road they are closing at the peak of the tides tomorrow.

This is where I am. Near the Chesil Beach. This was 2008!

Hope that you stay safe Maggie. Where I live, we are very lucky as we don't seem to have too many extremes of weather. We are sheltered by Ireland to the west and the Pennines to the east.
We have weather warnings for wind but it will be nowhere near as bad as other parts of the country. The strongest gusts of winds we have forecast for tomorrow are around 33/34 mph but the gusts are supposed to be stronger on Sunday and Monday.

Just seen on Sky News that the residents somewhere in Northern Ireland have been advised to pack a bag ready to be evacuated due to an expected tidal surge.

I don't think we're expecting any bad weather. Not according to the local forecast anyway. As long as son and family land at the airport from Egypt ok tonight I'll sort tomorrow out then!
02-01-2014 9:55 PM
Hope that your son and his family get back alright CG. Fingers crossed.
02-01-2014 10:14 PM
Looks like the SW is getting the worst of it CG.

Thanks books. I'm sure if they've survived Egypt they'll survive the flight! Funny choice of destination if you ask me!!!
02-01-2014 10:17 PM
Yes it looks like it Maggie. Good luck!
02-01-2014 10:37 PM
Its very windy and hammering down with rain here..again.

Chesil Beach forms a kind of natural defence, doesn't it?
I have a half memory of there being some old cottages behind a wall that sit lower than sea level or am I thinking of somewhere else?
02-01-2014 11:14 PM
That's Chesil Cove at Portland end. Their are sea defences now but it can flood. There is a siren warning for iminent flooding. The cottages are below sea level. It's only a mile from me. I can see the waves breaking OVER the Chesil Bank when it's really bad!
Chesil Cove.

This is where I am. Well half an inch to the left of the photo!
Looks lovely & calm there!

I went there many years ago and went to the top of Portland Bill - Chesil Beach is quite amazing.
I remember one of those cottages featured in a homes n gardens type of mag a while back - lady had made a beautiful courtyard garden.
Bit scary to be that low down tho with the sea just over the wall and a bit along.

Not so bad now they have the sea wall. Love living here. I consider myself very fortunate.
