What's best to hide a fence?

I have a 6 foot wooden fence (not larch lap type) and would like to know what to plant in front of it to hide it. Would like something that grows quickly and is evergreen. Thought English Ivy might be ok. Any advise please?

Well it's nice to hear you have decided on what to plant. Over the years, I think some must have been more confused than at the start.

One final bit if you look back, if your paving is newish, ie within the last few years, the soil may be a bit alkaline, so choose accordingly, in addition the soil wont get much organic matter by way of the normal life cycle of plants, with the paving so the more you can add, the better ( compost )

late one for me, but good luck again

In the first year you could put in some nastursiums or even some runner beans - they will only do the summer but  they will provide some colour and cover whilst the other plants you put in grow.

Hi Carol,

Our passion flower went mental very quickly. It has attractive shaped leaves, gorgeous flowers and really cute curly tendrils. If you're lucky you will get bright orange fruit too (not much taste to them though!).
