Here is my new boy.....
He is a bit grumpy still, but hopefully we can bring him around to be sociable. 🙂 He is an African Pygmy Hedgehog and will be living with us for the rest of his life. 🙂 I hope to get some better photos soon. 🙂

A better photo of Smithy. PCC, he is my rescue hog. The local RSPCA have me down as the local hedgehog carer. And so gave my number to the folks who had him. A few years ago folks went crazy for African Pygmy Hedgehogs, sort of like the ninja turtles. They don't make very good pets if you don't understand them or know what they are like. Anyway the folks were afraid of him going into hibernation and I think basically they got tired of him. So called the RSPCA, who passed them onto me. Alot of us British hedgehog carers are starting to see them coming into care as people are dumping them or getting rid of them. 😞 He maybe cute, but he is alot of work and not very sociable either. He sits in a ball of prickles and huffs and puffs and clicks at me. I have alot of patience so will try to tame him. Since I look after wild ones, I wanted to see what the difference between the two species is and I am up alot at night anyway so thought I would give taking one on a try. I do have lots of backup with friends who also rescue them and have years of experience. I also had a call and have another rescue hog from a person who called the RSPCA. It is a little wild one who I have named Barb. She is an autumn juvenile who is way too small to survive hibernation so will be overwintered with me. She also is full of horrible parasites that I am getting rid of. She wasn't in very good shape when she arrived either. But has picked up in the week I have had her. 🙂
This is Barb.
I also have in another youngster a little boy who will stay the winter and two who will soon be released back to the wild.
