I have just put my coral cotton cardi in with some black jeans, and the result is as you'd expect, a coral cardi with a grey tinge. Is there anything I can do?

Not sure if it's too late to use a colour catcher. Or being cotton you could dye it.

You could have a look at Dygon or the Dylon colour run remover though the fact the cardi is cotton may make it harder to remove the grey tinge.

is the advice not to let the garment dry out before you try colour removal?
so steeping in a bucket may be the overnight thing before you decide what you need to get

Thank you all! Will buy the colour run remover and give it a try, will also soak the cardi overnight. It was especially disappointing as it was a lovely colour and I haven't had it very long!

Yes, do keep it wet. Drying 'sets' the new colour so you have a better chance if you haven't dried first.
And don't be discouraged if all the grey tint doesn't come out the first time with a 'helper'. Wash again and put a scoop of oxygen bleach in with it. It may always be slightly duller than before, but you should get most of the colour back

Thanks, Elphaba! Off to shops now to buy remover. Will let you know how it goes!

Or you use it as an excuse to buy some nice new grey trousers to go with your 'new' cardi...

I certainly could, Mr.E.! The cardi is now soaking in Dr. Beckmann's colour run remover, so fingers crossed!

I decided to use one sachet and soak it in a bowl, then I could use the other sachet if it didn't work first time. Both times, the water ended up grey. The cardi had improved a bit. Then I put it in the machine on its own with biological washing powder and a tiny bit of bleach; the result is a slightly duller cardi with some pale grey marks on the back. OH says it looks wearable, but I might dye it now the colour's more even, and start a search for another coral one! Thanks to all who helped.

Why does it always happen to things you like?
Why do you never ruin things you weren't that keen on anyway?
Totally infuriating.
My son got 2 really cool t-shirts on holiday, I read the label and
it was cool wash only. I washed them on cold and they both shrank
by 2 inches in length and are now unwearable! 😞

Years ago I knitted OH a jumper, pure wool - shrunk it to child's size!
