Update on Tweet the budgie

Well, he grew his feathers back on his chest, then a few weeks later started to lose them again, and now they are growing back again. BUT.....what is worrying me is that he has almost stopped swearing!!!! His main phrases now are "Stop it" closely followed by "Give up." AND he is talking in a quieter voice. Just wanted to share that bit of lightheartedness with you, seeing as I am bored as there is nothing on TV only football! Maybe he is just maturingSmiley Happy

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

Thanks, Sam and yes, you are in his fan club. I've just looked it up but dont think its Air Sacs. I have thought before that he had a lump lower down on his back, near his tail buit when I mentioned it to the vet previously, she thought he looked normal. Oh decisions, decisions. Will wait to hear from you Sam. He doesnt appear ill or anything and eats well. What I will say is that he is possibly eating a bit more grit. xx

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

Not trying to be supercilious here but could the lump be just near his tail & if it is might it be the gland that is used when preening?
I would have thought that if it was his air sacs he wouldn't be so talkative & lively, I still think it's a case of eliminating different things I'm afraid & hopefully it will turn out to be stress, but it's very expensive unfortunately !.

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

Have you noticed if his poo is loose or a funny colour at all?
Do you feed any green stuff? What seed is he on & do you add any vitamins to it?
Sorry about all the ?

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

Im sorry i cant offer advice for poor Tweet as i dont know a lot about Budgies!!. I do know when their feathers come through it can be very painful as my friends parrot is really quite down when she has a moult and they come through again. It must feel horrible.

Why would Tweet eat more grit then??.

The weather is affecting the animals . Ive just come in and its cool with windows left open in my flat even when im out, but my cat Bubbles was flakers on the bed,,,she looked conked out when i came in and i was worried. Shes on the balcony now and is fine. Heat does affect a lot though.

Tweet Tweet,,,love you Tweet. Try not to worry Carol,,, i know easier said than done hun.heart

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

oh I hadnt thought of that, Sam, the gland for preening; hopefully thats what the lump is. If Tweet wasnt such a little character and so entertaining I wouldn't be going ahead with the Xray but I think he deserves a chance, just waiting for the vet to phone back so I can get him booked in. xx

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

Hi Rose, birds don't have teeth the Grit is eaten & is stored in the crop to help grind up the grain & is also a source of calcium.

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

Hi Sam, his poo is normal. He is on Trill, don't add any vitamins to it. He has a bit of lettuce, tomato, cucumber and hard boiled egg about 3 times a week , he loves the egg. I bought him some Budgie egg bisccuits thinking he would love one and all he did was poo on it, LOL

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

Ok! Google Wild food for budgies it's very interesting!
If you gather things like chickweed , dandelion leaves etc make sure it's washed & dried first& sprinkle a few seeds on it so that he gets a little taster of the greens, it may give him an interest & his vitamins as well, the beauty of wild food is it's fresh , free, & beneficial to his well being & also gives him an added interest, it's certainly worth persevering with!.

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

If you do decide to give wild food try & hang it so that he can't tread or poo on it it will also make him work for it, a bit of added interest for him.

Ok Cap'n youre in the fan club too, that's four nowSmiley Happy Thanks, Sam, will look up the wild food.

Got Tweet booked in for his xray on Wednesday, hope he survives the anaesthetic. Told the vet I cant afford any more tests for him as the xray is £70. Hopefully they will find out what is wrong with him and he'll get better. Fingers crossed for the little guy  I think Tweet needs a little t shirt to cover his baldy chest Smiley Winkxx

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

My first thought when I was reading a couple of pages back, (as saasher has since said) he wouldn't talk if he was in pain and the lump on his back would be his oil gland.

I had a parrot that used to pull his feathers out.  He often had a completely bald chest.  It's usually down to stress.  Some birds pull out every feather they can possibly reach!

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

I think if I dont try to find out what is wrong with Tweet now, he will end up looking like that parrot, as the feather loss gets lower down each day.  I've just got to take my chances whilst he appears well and happy; if I leave it until he looks poorly, the xray could be worse for him.Its a sort of catch 22 situation really. I'm hoping he'll be singing along to the concert that is on BBC1 at 8-30Smiley Happy

I think sometimes it's just habit....hopefully the fact he is still swearing and looking at himself in the mirror are good signs.

Yes, we are the Tweeters..lol!

Re: Update on Tweet the budgie

He did sing along and bashed his mirror a few times, Rose. I've read that Budgies should have 12 hours sleep a night, so I've started putting his cover over his cage earlier now. I dont know if he liked Il Divo as I nodded off but he enjoyed Culture Club and Smokey Robinson, LOL  He's got good taste that bird. Yes, I enjoyed it, had a bit of a nostalgia trip with the older acts. I have never heard Paloma Faith sing before, but really liked her; just listened to  the song on You Tube.
