Well, he grew his feathers back on his chest, then a few weeks later started to lose them again, and now they are growing back again. BUT.....what is worrying me is that he has almost stopped swearing!!!! His main phrases now are "Stop it" closely followed by "Give up." AND he is talking in a quieter voice. Just wanted to share that bit of lightheartedness with you, seeing as I am bored as there is nothing on TV only football! Maybe he is just maturing

Haa haa,,, i think i will give tweet some advice "your best off on your own ,then you can do your own thing Tweet". But they do look sweet though yes!!.

Yes, being on his own for 4 years, he probably won't want to share his batchelor pad and toys

you never put their cages in the draughts or in the window, strong sunshine can kill them, as of course you know.
we nearly lost a budgie as we thought we had him in a safe place but there was a draught. He dropped to the bottom of the cage and took a while to warm up. They go downhill very quickly.
Oh I'm with you Rose, there should be a Tweet fanclub!!! lol. Can I join please?

You certainly can join, CB, but he'll expect pressies and cards on his birthday and at Christmas. xx (This is him just as the feather loss problem was starting.)

The vet has spoken to a specialist Avian vet, who thinks Tweet might have a Beak and Feather disease:smileysad: He has to have his feathers tested (£50) and maybe a blood test; if it is that, it will attack his immune system and there is no cure. Poor little bird, please keep your fingers crossed for him.

Thanks, Sam & CB. I would hate to lose him so young, he's the best Budgie I have ever owned. If anything happens to him, I won't get another one. I've read about the disease and its not nice.

Hi Sam, Tweet is still his normal happy, talkative self but just cant keep the new growth of feathers on his chest, they seem to fall off straightaway. I can only think he got the virus from the parent birds or in the pet shop as he hasnt been around any birds since I bought him. The vet said last night that she would phone again this evening - she didnt do! I hate it when you are waiting for an important call and they don't bother to phone as promised. The picture above was taken in February this year, bu his beak and feet are still normal. What I will say is that he is sleeping a bit more, but that could be the hot weather I suppose? Hopefully I will hear from the vet tomorrow and can get the feather testing organised. Will keep you updated.

Aww poor Tweet. Can I join the Tweet fan club as well please?
18-07-2014 10:14 AM
Yes Books, welcome aboard the Tweet fan club!! Got 2 members now, you and Rose. The vet has just phoned and wants to Xray him as they think he is pulling the feathers out himself, possibly due to pain; could be Air Sacs or Liver. Going to have to have a long think about it, as anaesthetics for a Budgie is very risky. Will look it up and see what I think. Any advise would be very welcome please. I did once have a Budgie with a tumour on his beak and he has an operation; not long after he got another tumour and I lost him. More worry, LOL At the moment he is talking away, a few naughty words and he keeps saying, "stop it" and "give up" and "go to bed." Love him!

Hi Sam, the feathers look normal, but they are very tiny as they are the new ones that are coming through, colour is normal, shape etc.

Thanks, Sam and yes, you are in his fan club. I've just looked it up but dont think its Air Sacs. I have thought before that he had a lump lowwer down on his back, near his tail buit when I mentioned it to the vet previously, she thought he looked normal. Oh decisions, decisions. Will wait to hear from you Sam. He doesnt appear ill or anything and eats well. What I will say is that he is possibly eating a bit more grit. xx
