Update on Tweet the budgie

Well, he grew his feathers back on his chest, then a few weeks later started to lose them again, and now they are growing back again. BUT.....what is worrying me is that he has almost stopped swearing!!!! His main phrases now are "Stop it" closely followed by "Give up." AND he is talking in a quieter voice. Just wanted to share that bit of lightheartedness with you, seeing as I am bored as there is nothing on TV only football! Maybe he is just maturingSmiley Happy

Update on Tweet the budgie

I used to have a sexually frustrated budgie. He used to rub himself up against his mirror! lol He was fully feathered though.

Update on Tweet the budgie

If I get him a girlfriend, he'll probably stop talking, Rose. Anyway, that might not be what's wrong with him, LOL I've rearranged his perches and toys today, to stop the boredom for him and he seems quite happy with it. Also put his mirror nearer to a perch, so he's been talking to his reflection; he might be thinking, "Who's that baldy!" Hopefully hear more this week from the vet, but what she has suggested so far, like a referral to a specialist vet 30 miles away, won't be cheap; it's not really viable to spend a few hundred pounds on a Budgie; it's not as though he is distressed. Will keep you updated.

Update on Tweet the budgie

is it possible just for a lady bird either to visit or he could visit her?

i think if that is the cause then id rather have a non talker than a sad featherless bird

Update on Tweet the budgie

I'm really suprise he talks to the mirror, when we bred budgies (my father did, just stopped as I was born) he said never give them a mirror if you wanted them to talk. Just shows you....he loves himself lol!!!

oh bless, he's had his living room rearranged hahahaah, oh don't you just love it!!!

Update on Tweet the budgie

If little budgie is found not to have an allergy, vitamin deficiency , mites, etc , do we then presume he is feather plucking because he is bored , sexually frustrated.
I had a look on the budgie site, apparently even the positioning of the cage in a room can make them start doing this if they feel unsafe, complicated little birds aren't they?
If you Google, chest feather loss in budgies it's quite interesting.

Update on Tweet the budgie

Im sorry carol im laughing at when you said it wont be CHEAP!!!. Dont you mean TWEETTTT!!!. OMG,, ignore me ha ha . Poor little Tweet. You would think they would talk to each other if another bird was there that surprises me!!!. My friends bird wont say anything much but if you leave her alone and walk out the room she squawks like a gooden!!!!!. And sometimes she will lunge her head at you and do a little squawk as if shes trying to scare you or say"who you looking at?". Their funny things birds,, they have their little personalities like all animals and birds.Woman Happy

Update on Tweet the budgie

Thanks, Sam, will Google the feather loss.

Tweet hasn't bothered with the mirror since, maybe he thinks he isn't such a catch after all with a chest like that, LOL I read that about mirrors, CB, don't put one in the cage if you want the bird to talk.

They are quite complicated little birds; when I got Tweet a new cage, a year ago, he wouldn't eat; I left him to it for a  couple of days, then put the swing from his old cage into the new one and he started eating straightaway. Smiley Happy

I should have put it won't be "CHEEP" Rose, ha,ha.

I'll have to rule out mites etc as a cause of the fveather loss before I get him a girlfriend; no-one round here keeps Budgies, so I can't borrow one unfortunately.

He was using his naughty words last night, maybe he didnt want a cage "makeover"Woman Happy

Update you when I can; thanks for the replies and advice. We certainly love our pets on this site, don't we?

Update on Tweet the budgie

Hi, this was something else I read when I Googled, that the changing round of toys etc can upset them as well!
do budgies mate for life? I only ask because if you get him a girlfriend & then take her away it might upset him even more, also he might not even fancy her just because we think the bird we choose is sexy doesn't mean he will. lol.
Tell him I think a bare male chest is very sexy, boost his confidence so to speak , you know how males are more vain than women.lol.

Update on Tweet the budgie

I'll tell him, Sam Smiley Happy I'm getting a bit worried about him now as he seems to be nibbling himself and is starting to get feather loss on his back now. Going down to the pet shop to get some mite spray; better than doing nothing whilst waiting for the vets colleague to get in touch with her; they dont rush do they? They must be on a par with when we have to wait to see a consultant! Not sure if Budgies do mate for life to be honest. I've always only kept one Budgie at a time and never had a problem before. Hope the spray will help him.

Update on Tweet the budgie

Yes I'm afraid very often it's detective work & you can only get results for a specific thing & if that isn't the cause you have to start again. Now that's interesting that he has started to lose feathers on the back of his neck! Mention that to your vet you never know that might be another piece in the jig saw, although that does sound like a neck moult? He's certainly a mystery little tweet isn't he bless him?

Update on Tweet the budgie

Oooo just had a thought if you've just changed his cage round & now he's started nibbling could that be the cause & also you said that when you changed his cage last year he went off his food, might he be just be a stressed out little feller?

Update on Tweet the budgie

Hi Joe, no. I don't let him fly round. He did get a fly round the vets room last week, when he got awaySmiley Happy

I've got a bath for him, CB, but all he does is have a drink from it then use it as a toilet! But I do spray him with tepid water, maybe will have to do it more often. Given him another spray with the mite spray and he seems alot better this morning, so lets hope thats the problem.

Aww bless you, Rose. Yes, he loves the warm weather and the sunshine; when the sun is out he sings/talks his little head off. He's always quieter on an overcast day. xxxx
