The weekly shopping trip

I decided over the weekend to do my weekly shop at Lidl and Iceland instead of Asda just to see the difference.

My local Lidl has just re-opened following a re-fit and to be honest it was absolutely heaving with people, more than I have ever seen down there before. Even people who weren't short of a bob or two were shopping there. It was that busy you could hardly move so it just goes to show that people are choosing Lidl and Aldi more and more. I got a ginormous bag full of stuff including meat, chicken and the weekly veg for just under £12. Their veg is at least half the price as the other supermarkets.

I then went to Iceland and got more meat, fish and lots of other stuff including some "just in case" meals for £25.

All in all this weeks weekly shop has come in at £36 - and to be honest lots of it will last weeks.

Just thought I would share this with you lovely ladies.

If you can, try looking in Lidl and Aldi - they are German based companies and really do have an amazing choice of christmas goodies that the brits dont produce - their stollen is AMAZING.

Remember - it takes 17 muscles to smile and 44 muscles to frown - SO KEEP SMILING 🙂

Re: The weekly shopping trip

We only use two supermarkets - Morrison's and Aldi and we are spending more and more in Aldi.  We've never had any problems with their fruit.  Our Lidl seems to have got quieter and quieter and Aldi has got much busier.  In fact, Aldi opened a new store the other side of town from where I live last week and apparently, it was madness from before they even opened the doors.

Re: The weekly shopping trip

I like Aldi but I do need to go to sainsburys or morrisons for some branded stuff. Aldi best buys are the tomato sauce and little tins of flavoured tuna, the frozen stuff is good as well pizza's, wedges and roast potatoes are all lovely.

No sig can't be bothered.

Re: The weekly shopping trip

I haven't been in Aldi or Lidl for ages, well over a year, since well before I moved house.

I do most of my shopping in a massive Tesco - I know where everything is there 🙂

I sometimes go to Sainsburys but its a bit out of the way.... but it's never too busy there so nice for a quiet shop when I cba with the Tesco....

I have just noticed though that there is a Lidl & Aldi just a few minutes drive past Tesco (opposite each other!) - i think I may try there, especially  for veg/salad stuff for our guinea pigs/ourselves. Is any one of them better than the other?

I guess I'll just have to try them both.

Re: The weekly shopping trip

I have shopped in Aldi off and on for over 10 years and more recently, Lidl..

But also get lots at Sainsburys, because i work there.. and, if i am just doing local.. well, you cant fault Heron for good value (although you do have to sort the wheat from the chaff!)...
