THE NEW GOOD MORNING THREAD

Morning all, son decided to sort our computer out(because he wa having probs downloading even more stuff we didn't want onto our computer).

Grand bedroom switchover today, which is proving fun. Having asked them to box their stuff this week they haven't bothered because I didn't provide the boxes(in the hall). Panic ensues but at least I'll be able to use the laundry basket again, currently deluged by daughters clean clothes because 3 drawers and a single ward-drobe just don't hack it for her!. Boys are so much easier to store.

Grey and wet here. Feeling a lot better which is nice. Meeting up with Furry later for help repairing my laptop, and socialising, yay!:-)

We’re negotiating a place to have Christmas in (the last one of being out of our home, yay!) but if it fails Furry has seen a yurt for sale on here and has space for it. I rather fancy Christmas in a yurt with a huge tree in the centre!:-)

Granny, can understand your dilemma. I think which medical issues you have and why, makes the big issue especially over anaesthetics. If you are enjoying life and have good quality of life and can see that you will continue to have it for long enough then it may not be such a big issue. Think you and Gramps are lovely hiding neighbours pressies for them.

Momma I’ve done a separate post below about son’s Gran and hope it gives you an idea of what a huge difference it can make. We shall all be thinking of you. Nice little reversi further back btw.

Dooley you are a very bad woman! 😄

Herbs it’s time to try and hunker down in the warm as best you can. Spring will show up again soon enough. You’ll know it’s here when Boogs stops being sociable again.

Hello again Gerti!:-D

Welcome to the thread Little Dragon. relaxing at weekends, and in December? 😄

Think everyone might want to keep an eye on the weather forcasts, been warned high winds are expected again down South Sunday.

THE NEW GOOD MORNING THREAD

For MIL it was the right thing and it might sound a bit callous but she also had to make herself as careable for as possible. She was 6’5’ and at one point 27 stone, with a disabled husband who wasn’t able to do much himself, that she'd outlive, and a family that was disappearing over the hill.

She was late 60’s, when we first met, nearly blind through inoperable cataracts, and had given up on life and just stayed home and ate a lot and was dreadfully depressed. She said she was just waiting now. 😞

It took a lot to get her to have corneal transplants, and tbh she was cavalier and messed up after care of the first one and was left blind in that eye. After the second one (which she was lucky to get) she realised that her quality of life didn’t have to be so poor, but she’d ballooned, but apart from diabetes and general old age complaints she was healthy enough, but caught in a trap where as a very large and overweight person whose knees had given out, she was now doomed to become more overweight, through immobility, and thus more immobile.

So after getting her weight down as much as possible, she went for it one knee at a time in her mid/ late seventies to give her the best crack.
I’m very happy to say there was no stopping her afterwards! She spent her eighties repeatedly flying to Canada, shopping in USA, and Scotland. A trip down the Nile, a driving holiday (as a passenger) through the rocky mountains, and coach trips all over the place. Her last two years weren’t quite as much fun but she had lots to talk about, and being more mobile allowed her to get what she wanted out of life to the end of it.
She started life as a tweenie, and to get to do so much in the fourth part of her life that she had thought was just downhill from now on, was a continuing source of amazement for her. 🙂 Without the knee replacements it woudn't have been possible.
