Not sure Learning, I know what you mean, but have never done that, I can imagine its very fiddly ..... all I can suggest is trying to knit that row on a smaller needle ........ are your stitches are tight?
I'll give Craybia a shout on FB & see if she has any advice for you.

THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Hi

I think by the sound you are making a picot edge and yes they can be a bit fiddly. There are 2 ways to do this, I pick up the stitch on the row where you are to pick up from usually about 3 rows below or whatever your pattern states. I then slip that stitch onto the left needle, and knit the 2 together. I go through the 2nd stitch first then the 1st stitch, (if that makes sense). if it is too tight try using a smaller needle for that row.

oh and my fail safe plan if it is too fiddly for small things I knit that row where it is the pick up row, finish the garment as stated and then sew the picot edge over in place.

I hope I make sense and good luck

Its hard trying to explain something without pics, I know what I mean but cant write it without it looking weird. I hope it helped even if only a little.

Oh on the things from footwear thing, I have made 2 more for my mum who showed everyone at slimming world last night. I am doing one now in multicoloured hearts for my mums friend who is having a rough time at the min her mum is really poorly,

is on here the best place to get eyes? The ones that need white eyes if dark bodied look freaky with just white buttons (not quite as bad as septic though, glad to hear he has a collar)

I get my eyes on here Craybia - good selection.

I made a pink heart one for a neighbour who has Breast Cancer 😄

I'm really not a knitter though. Make the loops too tight so I have sore fingers. I managed all the shaping, but the other bit had me stumped. Pearling 2 stitches together 7 rows apart is beyond me I'm afraid. So I went running to my Mum who used to knit a lot, but now has arthritis.
As the doubled bit was purely decorative, her solution was to unpick the 7 rows and miss that bit out.

One shoe is now finished 🙂

Hope this baby can hop though ;)

Learning, if you want a pretty picot edge, I tend to do it how craybia said. Just stocking stitch a couple of rows at the top of the item, next row make holes by *knitting two together, wrap wool round needle, repeat from * to end of row. Stocking stitch two more rows and fasten off. Fold the top over along the row of holes and slip stitch it in place Voila! picot edge.;-)

Thanks all 🙂

The hats and scarves are really simple - 8 stitches for the scarves and k2 p2.
Hats are 28, 32 or 36 stitches, depending on size.

The shoes I'm trying to do are by Debbie Bliss and pretty cute. Nearest pic I can find is

3rd from left on 3rd row down
http://www.google.co.uk/images?q=Debbie+Bliss+baby+shoes&um=1&hl=en&rlz=1R2TSEH_enGB370&tbs=isch:1&sa=N&start=40&ndsp=20

But these have a rolled bit between the top and the sole, which is created by pearling the 2 stitches 7 rows apart.

By taking it back 7 rows, I've just lost that bit.

I am using Baby DK CK - can't ever see me doing another pair in the expensive wool though. Talk about blood, sweat and tears ;)

So you could have just slip stitched the two rows together on the inside, after you'd cast off, couldn't you??:|

I suppose so CG, but the rolled bit was on the outside to look pretty.
Wish I could find a pic. They are like little pull on pixie shoes with a turned over split cuff at the top.

IF I ever finish the pair I'll post a pic.

Right, I can't really tell without having it in my hand, but I would have thought it would be just about the same, doing it as I said, but I have a head full of great ideas in theory, they don't always work in practice though! :^O
