Well, been at the hospital all day.
Last night Mum started having hallucinations. Was convinced there was a hand under her pillow and that someone was in the house. When we were at the hospital she insisted that someone was stuck in the toilet and she could see and hear them trying to get out.
We spent the morning in the Eye Department, but they ruled out eyes as a cause (no bleeding behind her eyes)
We then went to the Assessment Suite for lots of tests, but basically they can't find anything apart from a slight urine infection. That could explain the confusion, but not the headaches, numbness and hallucinations.
She was sent home with antibiotics and we have to go back for more tests and scans if it hasn't improved by next week.
Quite unsatisfactory really.

Oh dear Mags. Lets hope the antibiotics make a difference.
14-11-2012 7:45 PM
Oh Dear mags, ((hugs for your mam)) I hope the anti-b's kick in quickly, are you sure that the infection wouldn't cause the other symptoms, i'm sure i read it can cause hallucinations if there is a high fever with it. Hope she improves quickly.
Right i'm off to watch emmerdale 🙂

Hope your Mam gets well soon Mags , infections can acuse all sorts of other weird stuff as we found out with FIL last year .

I hope the antibiotics start to do their job quickly. From memory, I recollect in my lady oldies that there was a certain amount of 'confusion' present when the symptoms of UTI presented.
Maybe one of the other girls who work in this field could tell you more.

MY MIL gets "even more" confused if she gets a UTI 😞
she has hallucinated a few times in the past but not recently ...... maybe thats what caused them 😐

UTI's are notorious for causing confusion in the elderly.
14-11-2012 9:21 PM
Learning, my Dad got so confused with a UTI that he did not even recognised us, his own family and did not know where he was.
It was so bad that the Medics started to wonder if he had had a stroke. As soon as the Antibiotics kicked in he was back to his old self.
It was so bad that I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it for myself.
Hope your Mum is soon on the mend.

Sodium levels can cause all those symptoms. Low sodium I think.

My youngest saw that driving safe film today at school and is quite traumatised. 😞 I think it's a good thing they see the real results of drinking /texting/speeding etc but it is a horrible film. I watched some on YouTube and was surprised at how graphic it was.
