I've been gathering stuff together rather than sewing.

Oh MrsR - I did as you said - Hospice & Church shops both benefitted today & I put some pennies in the Cancer Research jar in the newsagent too 🙂

Definition of Oilcloth:
Oilcloth
Oilcloth was, traditionally, heavy cotton or linen cloth with a linseed oil coating: it was semi-water-proof. The most familiar use was for brightly printed kitchen tablecloths. Dull colored oilcloth was used for bedrolls, sou'westers, and tents. By the late 1950's, oilcloth became a synonym for vinyl (polyvinyl chloride) bonded to a flanneled cloth.

Whereas Linolium went on floors!:^O

rubbish!!!!!

Oil-Cloth
Oil-Cloth. The body of floor oil-cloth is composed of burlaps, which is made of jute. By far the larger quantity of burlaps consumed in this country is imported from Dundee, Scotland. This coarse cloth is woven soft and limp, and the first operation in the manufacture of floor oil-cloth is to stiffen or "size" the cloth. This is done by passing it through a hot mixture of starch and glue, and then over heated rollers, coming out, it might be said, laundried. It is then ready for the paint-machine, where it is given the " body." This paint is composed of raw oil, turpentine, ochre and umber. There are four qualities of oilcloth, depending on the number of body coats of paint; that which is to be the best quality receives six coats; the poorer grades a less number. The cloth is in pieces twenty-five yards long, by from one to two and a half wide.

It goes on the floor I tell ya!

Just spent the last 5 minutes looking for a picture I know I have.

Lucky for you lot I REALLY have to go and get sorted.

Billy Connolly says that linoleum fell out of popularity because people were unable to go into a shop and ask for

"A roll of linoleum".
