THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Aww...the little tooth fairy pillow has reminded me I made a couple of gingham cushions for my girl when she was little. If I ever find them, I will post a pic.

THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

GBC - I have been trying to set up my machine today.
Had a problem with the bottom thread going round the spindle and jamming, but think I've sorted that.

I am now trying to set tensions, stitch length and foot pressure, which is a bit of a nightmare.
Can get it to sew fine on cotton, but not stretcht t shirt material - any advice?

Also find it really hard to thread the needle front to back instead of side to side, but it only fits one way.

BTW - really stupid question...

Why do the spools have little holes in them?

You start by threading the end of the thread through the hole before winding the bobbin. Stretch material can be a nightmare to sew! All machine needles thread front to back.
That looks like a nice machine at a good price. Brother are a good make.

the wee hole fits onto a wee peg when you are winding cotton onto it, and when its underneath to stop it spinning round as thread comes off it

My instructions don't say anything about the hole. I tried threading it through, but it wouldn't wind the thread like that.

I seem to remember that the thread goes through the hole, but can't remember which way!

Why do the spools have little holes in them?

Slip the thread thru the little hole from inside the spool to the outside. Hold the thread tail upwards when you fill the spool with thread using the machine. Holding the tail keeps the thread taut and prevents it getting tangled in the winding mechanism thingy as the spool fills. Then snap off the tail.

Have a major problem with the spool thread. I'm obvious;y doing something wrong although I though I'd followed the instructions exactly.

VERY FRUSTRATING

Bottom thread is creating a loop and snagging underneath around the spindle.

I think I have downloaded your manual. The spool goes in a little metal holder? That right?

Another question...... it says on listing....

The XL5500 is ideal for basic alterations, mending and repairs. With its traditional metal chassis you can put your trust in this feature packed sewing machine that includes a drop feed and stitch width and length control to make mending items easier.

so will it still be ok to practice with it and make my little items with??
