Afternoon
Been to visit FIL this afternoon.
Well done on the sale shopping Hippy 🙂
BTW has anyone on here got a fleece Snood (scarf, hat collar type thing?)
I'm after sizes - circumference and depth - to try and make one for OH.
Merlin, sounds like your casting on is a bit loose 😉 What method did you use?

Also meant to say that I knitted Wrist warmers for my Mum and daughter and both loved them 🙂
Thanks for the pattern Hippy :-x

No probs Mags
You should look online - loads of stores have them and the knitted ones - might be able to find measurements that way??

method learning??
erm
i made a loop over my thumb, put the needle through, and onto it
it was ok once done, all nice & uniform
but once i got to row 3, the bottom edge is all wee loops
it looks pretty, but totally not right!
i am finding knitting much more relaxing than i do sewing
i am just keeping on going with this, hopefully i shall improve with practise

Merlin once you put the needle through, knit it onto the needle, basically your using your thumb as the first needle.
Thats how i do it and its nice and neat 🙂

my Nan taught me to knit as a child.. I didn't do much until my eldest was born early and I had a long bus journey to and from the hospital every day for 8 weeks..( made longer by the weather.. jan 1978.. weather a bit like this dec!) Managed to knit a blanket on those journeys!
can't knit now.. sets off the arthritis in my fingers.. they swell up like sausages.. I miss it.

Same here Chez, i used to hand knit alot why my kids were babies, I dont do much of it now tho 🙂
28-12-2010 7:34 PM
I can't remember who taught me to knit, I know it wasn't my Mum ....... I think it may have been one of her friends that you always called Auntie :^O
I never really made anything untill I had children & then it dwindled off as they grew up ..... well they could only wear so many .... I think it was thunderbird jumpers at the time :^O
Then a few years ago ..... I had a hysterectomy & wanted something to do while I had my feet up 😐 ...... I started knitting again & 've never stopped knitting since 😄

My grandma taught me to knit, she used to knit us a set which consisted of a pleated skirt and jumper, i had one in most colours 🙂
and guess what i knitted first,
a miniture set for my dolly, i had a twin yey!! :^O
28-12-2010 7:44 PM
I used to knit a lot of Aran stuff with cables & suchlike. I do like a bit of knitting to pick up when I have no hand sewing.
28-12-2010 7:46 PM
I can't remember who taught me, but my mum could knit beautifully, the most difficult patterns, so I guess it must have been her. I used to knit my babies things, but then it got to be cheaper to buy ready made ones, so it petered out. The needles were out double quick as soon as my grandchildren were expected though. You can knit a lot of tiny garments in nine months.:-x

you sure can 😉
My daughter doesn't know how to knit or sew 😞
She's never been bothered, she would rather just go and buy, still she has a great body and can strip the cellophane of a candy cane and wear that :^O

Maggie i used to love the kids in cable, 🙂 they always looked warm & cosy, but like CGrandma said it got to the stage where it was cheeper to buy the item than it was to buy the wool 😐
