This thread is so reassuring. I collect fabric too, but curtain fabric, I have six large storage boxes of the stuff, and I always buy 3-4 metres more than I need, what the heck I'm going to use it for I haven't a clue.

I turned my smallest bedroom into a sewing room and I love it, somewhere I can leave the machine set up all the time, a really comfy chair to curl up in and everything (well not quite everything)stored away in drawers. It's a bit odd really when I do little machine sewing, just curtains and cushions really, but a lot of hand sewing, cross stitch and needlepoint.

I also seem to collect threads and have boxes and boxes of appletons yarn, dmc, pure silk, metalics, you name it...I also seem to have a vast collection of beads, 6 files full of charts and loads of books - so pleased it's not just me:-D

Do you mean the quilt Merlin? It's bias applique. Hand made bias sewn on by hand.:-)

Thats a picture of a walking foot. Very easy to fit (one screw usually). You can buy generic ones, but if its a new machine I'd go with the manufacturers recommendation as it might mess up your warrantee.

MMMMmmmm why do I collect material???

I think I might have been a magpie in a former life. Nesting?? I suppose I was always on a tight budget and learn't to throw nothing away, or to snap up something if it was a bargain. With me its not just material its old machine accessories, sewing/craft tools. Things that were made to work and not just sold to look pretty.

I'll pass on one of the best tips I was ever given:-

However lovely the material is and however keen you are to start a project, wash it and press it first. A lot of fabrics are preshrunk but some arn't and putting all that work in just to have it ruin on the first wash is heartbreaking.

I learnt the hard way a few times, because i couldn't be bothered to prewash. I was so cross with myself.
