Any of you crafty folk made a rag rug?
I have hessian, a prodder and a load of fabric...
questions.. ( I'm sure they'll be more!!!)
1,what size do I need to cut the strips of fabric...
2. do I start in the middle of the hessian or on one edge or in a corner or.........
3. should I actually be doing this as I have sewing, knitting and crochet all unfinished
When I cut rags for my grandmother they were about one inch by about six...depends how shaggy you want the finished item. Try one at that and another at 8 and you will see which you like. They always knotted the strips by pulling into a loop and threading thru but I think if its a wall hanging you can get away with just looping thru. Knotting makes more sense to me. My mother had an elaborate patterned bedroom carpet with the smooth side up and shaggy side hidden in the backing.
They always started in a corner and worked in rows across. I don`t know how he did the patterned rug it was 4`6" by 8` at least. (hellish heavy ) maybe like a tapestry.
Hope it helps a bit.. !!
