Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Merlin....the guy who did the photo's did it the old fashioned way, photographing the originals and then doing what needed doing?

They looked OK at the time, they were supposed to be sepia photo's but I think he only tinted ordinary B/W ones as they've faded now and are back to being b/wX-(

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Lolly says Capt, your photograph has been "toned"

when they are developed in the darkroom, they are developed from a black and white film, then chemically "toned" to replace the black (in the case of wanting sepia) over time the toner fades and shows the original black and white photo, its been done manually rather than manipulation (such as photoshop etc)

i dont know anything about dvds CK sorry 😞

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

CK its really easy if you have a vhs still

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-2-0-VHS-to-DVD-Converter-Adapter-VIDEO-CAPTURE-Win7-/221116132456?pt=U...

i done a few with the above.

for the photos i use photoshop, and pain-stakenly do little bits at a time....... btw i self taught myself, and of course used youtube.

some photos like the above took me 7 hours.

some i can do in less than half an hour

i also coloured some of the ones i done for the family.

if any of you want one done, send me a photo at high resolution (as it gives a much better result) to my email addy

im no expert by any means, and some photos, well, they are so badly damaged nothing can fix them.:-x

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

is that really all I need Tara ....... I can really do it for a fiver 😮

I thought I would have to connect the VHS up to the DVD player & mess around with different leads :^O

I  guess I need to have a go, I think I keep putting it off because I don't want to find out the tapes have deteriorated but i supppose the longer I leave it the more chance they will have 😐

there VERY precious tapes to me as they have family members on who are no longer with us :-x

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I have just spent the last four hours trying to do, and work out how to do, something that I now realise is impossible because I was reading the wrong bit of the pattern.  😮   :_|

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

CK do it ASAP, if you are not sure about the state of your video player, buy a cheap tape from a charity shop and try to play it before risking your tapes. You won't be able to copy official videos to dvd as they are copy protected but it will test your player The older your tapes are the worse they will deterioate, all the magentic bits lose their magnatisim over time and the tapes will be lost forever

The easiest way to connect a scart lead from your video TV out socket to the in socket of your dvd recorder

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

CK

go to start,

type in msconfig,

that will bring you up the system configuration box, at the top, select start-up and untick most of the rubbish thats starting up and running in the background of your computer,

then apply.

if your not sure what you can untick take a screen shot, basically you can untick all apart from your antivirus.

dont be afraid you can always change it again.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

forgot to add,

CK

if you get the video capture dongle, all you do is put the vhs beside the computer you dont need the tv or leads,

attach the lead of the capture dongle to the vhs (obviously switch the vhs on)  and the use the installed software,

i just had to press play on the vhs, and record on the software on the laptop. when its finished take your tape out.

thats it apart from burning to dvd.

nothing to go wrong unless you have a dodgy video recorder.

cant advise on the dvd recorder way as i never had one, so dont know the proceedure.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I have absoloutely no idea but I would have thought as long as it was a reasonably tight knit, then as long as you placed something like a piece of greasproof paper over or under the knitted bit to stop it catching on the machine, it would be worth trying 🙂

I use that on my sock monkeys if the inside of them is really loopy 😄

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I'm not happy.  The TV in the kitchen has given up the ghost!:-(

It's not very old either, one, maybe two years.  He'd better go and get me one before this evening's programmes or I can see me lugging the big one in from the living room.  Somehow I don't think a 42" one will sit very well in it's place as it was only a 22"! :^O
