Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

little booger.

If he jumps up, turn away from him and ignore him too

Sounds like it's gonna be a long road but it will be worth it.

Is he mixing with other dogs yet?

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

he's met several dogs on his walks & seems fine with them. A bit of mutual sniffing but no pulling & aggression. Takes no notice of our cat now (scratched nose twice sorted that out)

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

I hope I am in the right place for asking this question:

I am in the process of making a doll pram set (blankie, quilt and pillow with matching lace) for MDCC.

What size should I make it so that it hits the 'best market?  I never assume that my items will be bought by MDCC   I like the 'new money'.

So - if any Mums can say what dimensions I should be working to, that would be such a help.  Thank you.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Hello Huggles - can you help me?  I've been renovating my son's flat - the works, ceilings lowered, new kitchen, wiring, heating, carpets, furniture, the works.  I've done a lot myself and it's taken a lot of time (90mins away) in between real life and working and so on.  Was beautiful, like a show home.

Hadn't been down for 12 days and last night almost had hysterics - upstairs had flooded us for the third time.  Already done it to living room (funded that one myself) then hall (they did help but would not pay the excess).  Bedroom this time - destroyed, carpets, furniture, bed, electrics, the lot.

I didn't deal with it 2nd time (was ill) but the housing assoc who own the flat told husband 'they do not entertain claims or any form of compensation'!!  Tenant is an alcoholic with 'social issues'.  He does not answer the door and last time we had to get the police to give plumber access to the flat.  I was beyond upset when I called them last night (24hr emergency no for tenants) and this time they said would get plumber there last night to stop water leak.

Do you have any experience of the like in your working life?  Surely I have rights too - I said to them that while I understand the man is unwell or whatever - he is clearly not capable of independent living.  Have thought about selling but (1) why should I have to, it's a nice flat and (2) I cannot sell it with this inherent problem without informing a potential buyer, it's illegal?

I was going to rent it out for 6/12 months, big demand for good rented flats in Edinburgh,  while my son and his fiancee decide what they are going to do, all depends on his job. It's also ok for everyone to say the insurance will cover it, but I keep claiming from them and my premiums will go up.  Thanks in advance.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Nobody answered my question ^^^^^^^

Anyway, I have decided that it looks too good to be a dolly blanket!  The crochet lace I bought really needs to be given to a proper baby and enjoyed by a new Mum!

So off now to crochet another 500g of baby blue wool.

I think I know how to crocket the lace onto the blanket.  Then I will satin trim the top of the blanket in white.  Does that sound right?

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

do you mean put the satin around the edge of the blanket? that sounds about right.

When I made a quilt for a pram, I used broderie anglaise around the edge, it had piping in it and a frill, so it was easy to sew on with the sewing machine.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

oh no, Rainyday, that sounds awful!  I can't help but you have my deepest sympathies - it would be bad enough to happen once but three times would be devastating!

Gina, I would also think your pup sees this as a game.  I have a dog but I'm not a particularly "animal" person so was able to stay relatively detatched during the puppy period - didn't fall for the cute eyes IYKWIM.  Anyway, if you are sitting down when he jumps up/nips you, try standing up?  If you are stodd, turn your back on him.  By using your hands to push him away you are giving him attention that he may perceive as affection or reward.  Maybe push him away gently with your foot or elbow?

And on the chewing front, Mars looked like he was going to be a chewer.  We gradually took more and more away from him and/or his area as he ate things (blocked off his access to the coffee table and the bookshelves when he tried to eat those etc).  Anyway, in the end it turned out he was bored!  We got him one of those chew toys that the dog has to work at to get the treat - more difficult than a Kong but easy enough to keep the interest up.  He stopped chewing pretty much straight away so it has to be worth a shot?

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Thank you Huggles so much.  When I called the useless housing assoc emergency line today I was told their plumber had been out and could find nothing. AND I WAS TO WAIT UNTIL MONDAY OR TUESDAY UNTIL THEIR 'TEAM' DEALT WITH IT.  With water still dripping down my walls.

I didn't lose it, you cannot afford to do that now and anyway no point in antagonising the only person on the end of a phone who can help you.  So I stuck to my guns and said NO. I want someone there today.  Go higher, find me a manager and I'll talk to him.  Bit later, call back and yes, as an extra special favour considering the mess, their emergency plumber would go back but would need access to my flat (90mins away).  I was asked to stand by and make myself available for him (to my eternal credit I did not give the sexist reply dancing in my head).  I said I am 90 mins away and my name is M. not Bond, I do not have a helicopter and I am not sitting in a flat, now freezing cold with no heating.  THEY would oblige me by coordinating with plumber yadda yadda yadda.

Young plumber guy called me from his mobile, gave me an eta and the best joiner in Edinburgh (I have his card folks, great guy), who has done all the kitchen, ceilings, skirtings, doors for me and still has my house keys went and met the plumber.  They looked at both properties and it was the upstairs waste pipe in the kitchen.  They have done a temp repair and Barry (my joiner) was brilliant, said all the right things, we'll sort it, it'll be ok C, I was howling.  Because the place was beautiful, really beautiful and this whole thing was (is) to be my wedding present to my son and his fiancee.  All new and fresh, tall Victorian window with fabby curtains, new bed all made up with new fresh bedding, rug, funky lamps, all from Ebay, all now in the wheelie bin in the street.

Anyways nobody died and hey ho just start over.  Did you read about the Deno horsey lady?  Blerdy disgrace.  Thanks again and have a good Sunday........... with a lie in.

Re: THE FHG SEWING THREAD :-D

Thanks Oh Pee, all kindness welcomed today! I agree with you about turning your back.

Our neighbour got a Doberman puppy (who always scared me a bit) and my baby (like a quarter as big but thought she was a lioness) used to nip him if he used his teeth 'inappropriately' then stand square in front of him and bark.  Doberman got the message but it took a while.  Good luck Gina.
