its a fast & strong accent
i think people think we talk like rab c nesbitt
i guess some do
but not all
i had to slow down as i lived in england for years
people were very polite. they didnt say they didnt understand you, but they just looked at me:| when i had asked them a question:^O
that was in birmingham
in london they understood me much better
in the black country i didnt stand a chance, and neither did they!

It would be boring if we were all the same & spoke the same, it make a person extra special & fun when they have a mixed accent 🙂
I'm from west yorks, married & moved to south yorks, people used to laugh at how i spoke & thats just a short distance of about 17 miles,

i arrived in the black country
young & fresh faced
got into new st at 11 at night
next morning i am walking along a canal, a man walks right up to me, very animated
he kept telling me about the "bunnel" it was the only word i could make out
he kept pointing where he had came from (where i was going)
further long the canal, sitting it a tree was a barn owl!!
aaah, the bunnel!
my 1st meeting with a local:^O

I ( and hubby of course) was invited up to glasgow for the millenium celebrations, by a fellow who used to purchase from where i worked at the time, he would phone me up to place his order, and tell me a few jokes, and i used to laugh my socks of with him, i used to have to tell him to slow down about 2-3 times during the one phone call, he was a lovely man 🙂

I'm from East Yorkshire gems, and although I've been in Suffolk for about 45 years and speak with a 'more' Suffolk accent (people still know I'm not from here, even though they don't know where I am from) there are still things that I say in Yorkshire-ish when talking to family or friends, such as owt and nowt and yon and pikelets!:^O

i was brought up near doncaster, and my family think i speak posh 😐 lol

I must admit, it makes me cringe when I hear my relatives who still live in Yorkshire. It really does sound awful. Things like Eye-ya and plaaate and ba-th and taraaa!:|
There are some accents that I like, Liverpool, and Welsh but not Birmingham or Newcastle.
