Seems someone gave him 'something in a bag' that he put in the freezer when I was in hospital. When I saw them the name 'skate wings' came to my mind. Now I've de-frosted one and looked on google , that's what they are. I've never eaten or cooked one before. Has anyone any idea what I should do with it please? (Apart from the obvious, put it in the bin)

OH loves them & often has them when we go out. I tried them once and they tasted like ammonia.

Thanks ladies, but not the third one who shall remain NAMELESS!!X-( I was quite looking forward to one for my tea. HE won't have one though and it was HIS mate that caught them!!!

Oooh! Nameless one, Ashleigh Roberts is just about to come on. Do you still fancy like her?

Love the avatar...arms open wide to greet Ashleigh 😉
Don't fancy the idea of fish wings 😐

You'd fancy them even less (like I do) if you google them and find they are actually shark's dorsal fins. 😞 I wonder if the dog would eat them?:|

They are the side pieces of a Ray. Best skinned before cooking.:-)

It says on google they're only similar to rays but skate lay eggs not live births and various things but one thing I've just read.....they taste like scallops and are sometimes cut into circles and sold as scallops. The thing is, I only had scallops once and I hated it!!!:O

Well I like both but don't think they taste a bit like scallops.:| Skate is quite a delicacy you know.:-)

Well now I've fully dissected it (metaphorically speaking) and probably put myself off, I'll give you my verdict after tea.:-D

Okey Dokey! lol just wish I was sharing it with you.:-)

Well I ate it and it didn't taste like scallops, it was more like plaice than anything I suppose. I didn't fry it in butter because although I eat butter, I cooked the scallops in butter and didn't like them so thought I'd just use oil. It was ok, not a lot on it and a lot of messing about. There's another bigger one in the freezer so I'll have that some time but I don't think I'd buy them. I had some teeny tiny new potatoes that I'd boiled, that someone gave me, so I fried those too, so all my tea today was given. People must think how thin I am so send me food.;\

I would have really enjoyed that.:-)
