Signature files and Animated Gifs

Good Morning,

I am afraid to say that we have arrived at a post I had hoped I would not have to make 😞 I will be posting this message across most of the main boards throughout the day.

The size of Signature Files in posts is starting to get a little too out of hand. Lately the size has been creeping up and in some cases there are two or three different things in sig files pushing out the size of posts. In addition the use of animated gifs has been creeping back in along with ad's for sales and attempts to hide links in text.

For the most part I've tried to be as flexible as possible, overlooking the ones that are a little bigger than the recommendations. When they have been too large I've contacted members directly to ask them to resize them, and members have been happy to comply. This is no longer an option as it is taking up too much time due to the number of people needing to be contacted.

Were these reported Liveworld will act on them, and I don't want to see anyone getting a warning over something easily avoided.

I hope we can work within these guidelines and bring the threads back to a point where posts are easy to read without too much scrolling.

The guideline of 50 X 220 pixels (11,000 pixels) can only be that. A guideline.

However carefully a sig is designed, it may end up wider or taller than that.

The important measurement, though, must be the overall (maximum) size of 11,000 pixels, however that is achieved.

at the risk of getting flamed ( and i often do!!)

here goes,

james and the other mods did work hard to
get the offensive pics removed and the ids banned
as quickly as they could, as part of ebay and liveworld's
data protection and privacy rules, they couldn't broadcast
this fact,
the offending poster is able to come back because
they registered with false details and a non static isp
address, there is nothing live world or ebay can do
about that, and although the police were very intrested,
as someone else up there somewhere said, even the police
can't trace a non static isp addy or someone who registered with false details.

as to why sigs and gifs are regulated, several reasons
come to mind,
large sigs and gifs take ages to load for peeps on
dial up, they can interfere with some peeps pooters,
and moving sigs can cause problems for people with
sight problems or epilepsy (sp)
and you have to admit, some peeps did have 2 or 3 gifs plus wording in thier sigs and often took up nearly half a page with a post of only a few words.

and yes, i agree with what a lot of others have said on this thread, liveworld should be concerntrating on
the bigger problems on here,

but look at it another way,
in real life, if we chose to break some of the lesser laws, dropping litter,picking up doggy poops from our dogs, that sort of thing, where do we draw the line,
more important laws to some peeps are lesser laws
to others.

therefore, if liveworld let the gifs and sigs rules slide,
what next, the foul poster who posted those vile pics
the other week might not see that as a problem, he
will say, what the hell, i'll post them anyway.

its the little rules and laws that make the boards
and real life a halfway decent, pleasent and civilised
place to be.

Why not give the taggers back their tag threads and moderate them for them who make the sigs in the first place!
