How do you remove the adhesive left behind once you've removed Sellotape from a flat surface. I sold a printer the other day, and you would not believe the trouble I had removing the stuff where I had something stuck to it. No amount of scrubbing with washing up liquid would shift it. It came off eventually, but it took a hell of a time. Nothing seeems to disolve it once you take it off. Would petrol be any good, or white spirit?

I would have thought white spirit, or, has your missus (or you) got any nail varnish remover? I think that should do the job. You can buy something called 'Sticky stuff remover' too.

Thank you.

Sticky Stuff remover or WD40. Nail Varnish remover can cause damage to the surface so I wouldn't use that!

Thanks. I've got WD40. Next time I'm out I can buy white but I don't use nail varnish. I'm not that way inclined

fred, when I was in the motor trade we used a stuff called Tar and Glue remover and you might get it in an auto shop but it will be expensive. Nail varnish remover will do the same job but you would need to test it on the material first somewhere it would not be seen. A lot of these products are ok if only exposing the material to a short burst i.e. putting it on and wiping off straight away.

Zoff - it is used in hospitals for removing sticky residue from adhesive dressings. Mostly sold as wipes, but you might find liquid.
It is designed to be safe on skin
