Oh stan...I wish that smiley sun was shining here

Evening all. We've been out for lunch with a friend today. It was an extra meal out for us as it was my mum's birthday yesterday. We had a lovely time.

Thanks Merc. That's lovely and my mum loves it.

Morning all. Been up nearly all night with earache in my left ear. I can't hear a thing in said ear at the moment. We got a taxi down to the walk in centre and my ear canal is inflamed and swollen - that's why I can't hear very well. They've given me a week's supply of antib's so I will see how I get on with those.

No swimming for a bit then Chris?
10-09-2015 9:32 AM
No Merc. Definitely not. Thing is that it started playing up on Tuesday and then yesterday it was a lot better until around 5pm and then it's gone from bad to worse.
11-09-2015 11:03 AM
How's the ear today Chris?
11-09-2015 1:53 PM
Oh dear, only just seen this. I hope it's feeling a lot less painful now Chris.
I never put my head in the water when I swim, my hair is just the same when I get out as when I get in! 😄

My ear is still painful and I'm still as deaf as a post in that ear. I only finish taking the antibiotics next Wednesday so I'll see how I go on with them. I normally wear goggles when I'm swimming and put my head underwater as it affects my neck if I don't. Before I get back to swimming, I am going to invest in some ear plugs and/or a swimming cap. I looked up the problem on Google and one name for it is swimmer's ear. I can fully understand why.
Merc and CG, thank you both for your concern.

You're right there Stan. I hope that I'm not climbing the walls again when I go to bed. I'll be going soon as I am shattered. I've not slept properly the last couple of nights because the pain's been that bad.
11-09-2015 9:40 PM
Can you take a couple of Ibuprofen Chris, they're supposed to be good for inflamation.
I agree about the neck ache if you swim on your front and keep your head up, but I can't bear to get water in my ears as I get a lot of wax and then i go deaf. I swim a length of backstoke every so often and put my chin on my chest to ease the neck ache!

I've been taking ibuprofen CG but thanks for the tip. I've had a terrible night with my ear and I'm going to the emergency doctors at 9.20. I've been awaken since about 3am because the pain's been that bad so I'll see what the doctor says later. It does seem worse during the night though.
12-09-2015 7:56 AM
Oh dear! Perhaps he'll prescribe you some stronger painkillers until the Anti Bs do their job.
I'll look in later to see how you got on.x.
12-09-2015 7:57 AM
Thanks CG. I'll post back on here when I get back.

Somethin ain't right Chris...good luck at docs
12-09-2015 10:14 AM
Just got back from the docs. He crucified me examining my ear and he's changed the antibiotics. I have to make an appointment to see my own GP in a week. I have to take my mum to the doctor's on Monday so I will make an appointment then. As luck would have it, my GP is also and ENT consultant so that can't be bad. I'll see how I go on with these.
Thanks for all your concern.

Unfortunately you now have to wait for these anti biotics to start working, so that could be another two or three days!
Don't forget, you can take Ibuprofen AND paracetamol to try and get rid of the pain so you can get some sleep. (as long as you're not on anything else that contains either of those of course)
I hope it feels better soon. 🙂
