I am going to buy a refurbished pc at a good price. I have the choice of two. I am not techy in any way so please could you tell me which of the 2 pc towers is the better spec and are both DVD RW not just the first tower? My apologies as this is the only info I have:
1. Windows 7, Core 2 Duo, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, DVD RW
OR
2. Windows 7, Intel Quad Core, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Nvidia 8500GT
Thank you.

The second computer (2) will be faster but, otherwise, no real difference.
What do you want to use the PC for?
If 'normal' computer use then both specs are OK but if you want to do any gaming or video editing then neither PC is good enough.
For that you will need a Intel i5 processor and at least 8GB of RAM.
Win 7 is fine.

If it's on eBay, ask the sellers about any questions you have as to what is included.
The Nvidia 8500GT is the graphics processor which lets you watch dvds and vids etc on your pc.

Quad core has more processing grunt than duo, assuming you are multi-tasking, though both have been overtaken by i3-i7
processors, but would likely meet most requirements.
You could ask if W7 has a coa sticker or other documentation/disk, serial number supplied, and is it fully activated, with updates?
Might be interesting
One hasn't mentioned graphics card..the other has - the nvidia is a 512meg card I think, so should ok for most apps, but some things now require a certain minimum ram for graphics cards before they will install..eg flash, and the nvidia meets it, but the other with perhaps onboard graphics may or may not.
You might like to ask how many memory slots, how is the 4 gig ram made up, -4 slots are better than just two -as well as any warranty, that sort of thing.Hope you find something suitable
