Parcel tape has just come to the rescue!

Whilst opening a tin can I managed to slice a 3/4 inch into my thumb. Have used about 15 plasters trying to stem the flow. In the end I have had to cover the plaster with parcel tape to add pressure to it so now my thumb is covered with parcel tape. It looks daft but actually is doing the job. Cant wait to remove it....ouch! Least I can have a bath as my thumb is completely waterproof LOL. It was fun trying to deal with it left handed!!!!

Are you up to date with tetanus TinTin? Merc lost a finger through an infected cut. Please get it looked at. It might need a stitch!

Re: Parcel tape has just come to the rescue!

hold your hand up in the air, it helps to stem the flow and make the blood clot.

if you're not going to go to A&E and get it stitched...which you should do...make yourself some butterfly stitches by cutting some strips of parcel tape and wrapping them around the cut to keep the edges together. It's not very hygenic though. Go the chemist and get some strips and do it properly.

please go to A&E, it's true about Merc.

Re: Parcel tape has just come to the rescue!

I totally agree with what has been said.  You really do need to go to A & E to get it sorted.  After all, we don't want you get an infection do we?

Re: Parcel tape has just come to the rescue!

Have no fear...............my thumb is still well and truly attached to the rest of me. Had to put the parcel tape on as I wanted a bath and that was the best way to keep it watertight.

The cut has been sterilised and well wrapped.

It was one of those damn value range brand of tins. I find they dont open as well as some other tins.

Lesson learned.............get the teenager to open next time!!!!!

Thanks for all your advice and concern........muchly appreciated x

Re: Parcel tape has just come to the rescue!

Brings back memories.

Many many years ago when Docs appts were like gold dust and lots of peeps didn't have car I came home to Dad cooking dinner and Mum with alarge bandage on hand.

She had been taking meat off the bone at lunchtime, ready to give bone to next doors dog, and sliced into her thumb.  Stuck a plaster on and carried on but the bleeding wouldn't stop.  So hours later, when it is still bleeding they wander(at Dad's insistance) off to Docs for the late afternoon surgery.  Naturally there's no appointments so Mother unwraps the thumb and drips gently onto reception desk.  Suddenly the Doc is available.  He then wanted to send her off to A&E for proper stitching but did ask how she would get there(at least 45mins on bus, one bus every 20 mins, longer in rush hour) and said if she didn't mind risking his not very elegant stitching he'd do it himself. As Mum put it when I got home - really don't know what all the fuss was about!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was surprised she hadn't used superglue personally.

Re: Parcel tape has just come to the rescue!

When my mum cut right across the palm of her hand on a broken ornament dad took her off to get it stitched.  He asked the nurse if mum would be able to play the piano when it had healed.  The nurse said she would. 'Oh that's good isn't it love, you've always wanted to play an instrument haven't you' he said to mum.  An old one I know, but he was old at the time!!!  Woman LOL

Glad it's healing ok tintin.
