I was so close to burning the house down today. I put my microwave wheat bag in for a little longer than was advised. Came down from the loo two mins later and there was this awful smell pervading the kitchen. Took a while for the penny to drop....opened the microwave door and my poor little wheat bag had a burn hole in it and smoke coming out. Had I actually gone out and forgotten it, I think it would have eventually caught fire. Phew. Had too through it outside into a bowl of water to try and take away the smell. In fact 7 hours later there is still a smell. Still alive to tell the tale although no little wheat bag so got a hot water bottle down my jumper now.

They are very safe if you heat them properly. Got to be safer than pouring very hot water into a rubber bag!

I only use a hot water bottle occasionally that it is to thaw the car windscreen out. We have two lavender wheat bags which we only set for three minutes with a small glass of water in the microwave.

I love my wheat bag, when my back is giving me jip I put it down the back of my joggers and walk around with it, ooohhhh so soothing and it keeps you warm, I have been known to wear it when I am walking the dogs, can't see it cos I have my coat on.
Hope it smells better now Tintin. Light a candle that should clear the smell, DON'T FORGET IT THOUGH.

They are safe in the jars though surely. I leave my tealights going if I go out. What could happen to them?

Just a thought.
HOUSEHOLDERS are being warned not to leave tea light candles burning unattended following a fire in Poulton this morning.
Firefighters were called to a house in Surrey Street at around 7.30am.
The fire, which was out by the time they arrived, is thought to have been caused by tea light candle that had been left lit and unattended near a roller blind.
Watch manager Steve Dawson, who attended the call-out with White Watch from Wallasey fire station, said: "We advise candles are never left burning unattended and are placed away from other materials that could catch on fire.
"Tea light candles and other candles should be placed on a ceramic base so that the heat from them does not cause fire. "Tea lights should also never be placed on top of items such as televisions."
The roller blind was severely damaged by fire and there was some mild heat damage to a window.

Mine are nowhere near anything flamable & in ceramic burners. I am very aware of fire risk.

Wasn't aimed at you patch, just an observation, for every cautious person there is one who isn't.

I don't even burn candles attended here....... I have a nosey cat who would cause a very guarded flame to catch something or himself on fire. He only has about 6 of his 9 lives left.
