My new "job" with the PDSA

After months of struggling to get a proper paid job....and it not through the lack of trying I today started a part time volunteer job in the new PDSA shop that has opened near me.

I saw the new shop opened last week, and as I use the PDSA for the dog and cat I asked instore about volunteering and they snapped my hand off - mainly because of my love of books which is what most people dont like. I have also worked in another charity shop some years ago.

I am going to be really happy. OK it is not full time and paid but it gives me a chance to have adult conversation and to get out of the house more regularly.

As the shop has only been opened for less than two weeks all the volunteers there are getting to know each other from scratch - there are no "cliques".

I am still searching for other paid employment but this volunteering will fill in the gap nicely.

So today I am one happy bunny.

Not much fun sitting at home or going to the job centre seeking jobs...then teenager comes home at night....has a biscuit and a drink....grunts something then goes upstairs to his room. I feel like the invisible woman sometimes.

Well done ....that is wonderful news ....

As you state it will get you out of the house and it will give you a great boost . You will make new friends and will find the job rewarding.......you will meet lots of interesting people too as customers.

Not only that but even though the work is unpaid it is still relevant and will add to your CV ......it will be a boost in your quest for paid employment ...

Many congratulations .........

Re: My new "job" with the PDSA

Well done Tintin, as said above this will also help with your cv, as it shows your willingness to work weither it be paid or not, it can also get you back in a routine of going to work and give you a positive attitude, I did it a long time ago when I was between jobs and it is very worthwhile, you never know you might even end up running the place.

Well done TinTin. 🙂 sounds like a fun job to have. 🙂 I would like to do something like that if I weren't so busy with the hedgehogs.

Re: My new "job" with the PDSA

Well done!   Makes you feel worthwhile again and part of life.  Gives you something to look forward to and gives you a sense of pride  🙂
Word of warning though, be careful what you tell the job centre as when I was volunteering and signing on they said I had to fill in forms because it might affect my benefit!  I decided not to declare mine but then it was only occasionally.

Re: My new "job" with the PDSA

Dont worry Streety. Both the Job Centre and my work placement company have both been informed. In fact the work placement company advised me to find something voluntary for less than 16 hours per week - that wont count against me, can still do the normal job search and something extra to put on my CV.

Giving the Job Centre NO reason to sanction me.

Having said that, I am awaiting the date for an interview with the Puma Hotel Group for Central Reservations Clerk.....would love that kind of job as the perks that go with it are lovely.
