Must see films

What are your 'must see' films ?:|  I am interested to know.  I'm living on my own in the flat and loving the fact I can watch anything I like now!  There are so many films including great classics that I have never seen.

The only things I am not into are horror and sci fi or anything involving planes crashing or boats sinking.  If you have the time can you tell me a little about some of your must see films (no endings please lol!).

The one's I'm planning so far are a varied mix including The Shawshank Redemption, Saturday Night Fever, Breakfast at Tiffanys, A Wonderful Life, Gone with the Wind, Dr Zhivago and The Sound of Music (well maybe lol!)

No matter how old or new the film please recommend away!

Re: Must see films

Alison you must add "Mary Poppins" and "Bed Knobs And Broomsticks" to your list.

I know I'm sad and nuts ;-)............but both those films still give me such fun to watch even now and even though I've seen them hundreds of times.

They're both really good if you're feeling stressed or down as it's total escapeism at it's best :-x

I don't do any horror or sci fi or thrillers of any sort...........my mind can't cope with them.

"White Christmas" is another must see in my opinion 😄

Re: Must see films

Saving Private Ryan and  The green Mile are a couple of our favourites, plus a must for me is dirty dancing (I so loved Patrick Swayze :-()

But for classics Goodbye Mr Chips or Miracle on 34th Street 🙂

Re: Must see films

Oh, Golly - I know it's so corny, but Love Story with Ryan O'Neil and Ali McGraw. One of my most favourite films. I watched it so many times when I was young. One time at my grandparents house the house was full of family, I was watching it and my Grampa was with me, he didn't want to be there really. I was sobbing away, and everyone else was laughing at me - he was a very fierce chap and threatened them all with a thump if they carried on. The two of us continued to watch it in peace (but he so didn't want to watch it, he was just looking out for me). Happy days 🙂

Re: Must see films

I can go with corny, slushy, silly - any films if you think they are good that's obviously for a reason and I want to know - even if they are kids films!!!

No, that's Goodnight Mr Tom. Also great, but a TV series rather than a film

Re: Must see films

Hmmmmm! I don't do corny or slushy so won't be much help here. I guess Coraline & the Corpse Bride won't be any good then.:-p Life of Brian is a fave as is Lord of the Rings.

Re: Must see films

the King and I, the old one with Yul Bryner, oh boy that's a good 'un!

also liked the Ladykillers, again the old version with Alister Sim...really funny film.

Philadelphia is a great film, certainly watch that one.

sounds daft I know, but there's a cowboy film...yes I know we all hate them but bear with me...with John Wayne is Called  True Grit, it's about a wee girl who pays John Wayne to find the man who killed her father, it's really good, very funny in places too, it's not a typical western thank goodness they get on me wick...try it it's good.
